Any cosplayers out there in need of an ammo belt?

This cardboard came wrapped around the perimeter of our new pizza stone (the old one cracked). About 55" long, 3" wide. Confused cat for scale.

So! You fiber artists! Do you have any idea how to do this sort of weave?

I can probably work it out by staring at the pictures and messing with yarn/cord, but if you know of any explanations or tutorials, or even proper terminology so I can do searches, that would go a whole lot faster. :)

A friend of mine just contacted me to ask if I could make her a version of Daenarys Targaryen's wedding dress for A-Kon.*

I've been looking at other cosplayers' versions of the dress, and I am struck yet again with the same realization I had over a decade ago ago, when I was starting to look at making cosplay outfits: YOU ARE ALL USING THE WRONG FABRIC.

The fabric in that photo is so obviously a cotton gauze, and I'm seeing all sorts of cottons and chiffons and such, and no gauze ones so far. (I'm giving the people making wedding dresses based on this dress a pass, as it's Inspired By and not Recreating.)

I'm more concerned about making that brooch in the front. I do know someone with a 3D printer, but I don't know how big a thing he can make, or if anyone's got a pattern out there for one...

* This is not out of the blue: two years ago I was pestering her to cosplay as Daenerys, as I think she'd be fantastic at it. I expect she finally started watching Game of Thrones!**

** I told her it was easy: just wander around and scream WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS?! and if anyone gave her guff, just fix them with a stare and command DRACARYS!, which is the command for dragons to flame someone.

Just the Two of Us. Portraits of cosplayers at home.

Best one. And for some reason, Master Chief just got me. XD

I will have you know...that I pretty much rarely take photos of cosplayers, because I can just go online and find all sorts of better pictures of the costumes than I could take. But I did make an exception for this one.

Blast from the past - someone found my old costuming site and asked if I still do costume commissions! As she's interested in an Anthy costume, and I did a full cost/process breakdown for the one I did ALMOST TEN YEARS AGO, I am seriously considering doing it. (And she doesn't need it until next A-Kon! LOTS OF TIME OMG.)

And I think I'd be able to source so much more of the bits and bobs on the intartubes now, so it would hopefully be better.

Revisiting the cosplay database from a bit over a year ago! And it's been long enough that I can easily not think about sunk costs in the making of that version, and just re-make it, better! stronger! faster!

So: Cosplay Database 2.0!

It turns out that anime, manga, and videogames are made up almost entirely of edge cases, not that you didn't know that already. (Probably because people like to make characters visually distinct.) So ... need to work out what various things should be, and to do it in a way that uses multiple tables rather than the STUPID-ASS ONE table that I think I was doing last year for GOD ONLY KNOW WHAT REASON.

*ahem* here's some possible breakdowns. Thoughts?

Guy builds an Amaterasu (from Okami) costume for his dog. Explains how to do it so it doesn't hurt the dog.

Link found on Facebook - tips for shooting cosplay photos at cons. What I really like is the links to the shots - some of the best cosplay photography I've seen.
