Huh

A friend of mine just contacted me to ask if I could make her a version of Daenarys Targaryen's wedding dress for A-Kon.*

I've been looking at other cosplayers' versions of the dress, and I am struck yet again with the same realization I had over a decade ago ago, when I was starting to look at making cosplay outfits: YOU ARE ALL USING THE WRONG FABRIC.

The fabric in that photo is so obviously a cotton gauze, and I'm seeing all sorts of cottons and chiffons and such, and no gauze ones so far. (I'm giving the people making wedding dresses based on this dress a pass, as it's Inspired By and not Recreating.)

I'm more concerned about making that brooch in the front. I do know someone with a 3D printer, but I don't know how big a thing he can make, or if anyone's got a pattern out there for one...

* This is not out of the blue: two years ago I was pestering her to cosplay as Daenerys, as I think she'd be fantastic at it. I expect she finally started watching Game of Thrones!**

** I told her it was easy: just wander around and scream WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS?! and if anyone gave her guff, just fix them with a stare and command DRACARYS!, which is the command for dragons to flame someone.
