I can probably work it out by staring at the pictures and messing with yarn/cord, but if you know of any explanations or tutorials, or even proper terminology so I can do searches, that would go a whole lot faster. :)

Also, I was thinking you might use polymer clay over a metal ring (for strength and structure) for the brooch/fibula thingy.
