You'll want to read my previous post first, since this is Part II of the Recap of Aabra Ka Daabra: The School of Magic

Dare you enter..? )

That's it for the recap! Goodies from the movie up in the next post, once this big file finishes uploading...

The subtitles on Aabra Ka Daabra (check my previous two posts) are fairly Engrish-y, but I didn't bother to keep track of it, beyond noting that the subtitlers couldn't tell Pinky and Dinky apart, people's names kept changing spelling, and the potion of (life? health? immortality? vitality?) was translated as 'aphrodisiac'.

I did record one line, though. It was either Uncle Dilbagh or the faculty dork who uttered the immortal:
"I vow on the cooked tensile that I'll break the lantern of this bad woman!"

And then there was the menu. The flying ghost Casper Tu Tu featured on it, blowing sparks from his wand, and ... I don't think they *intended* this... )

I used VirtualDub Mod to grab the "Om Shiv Om" dance number. It starts with the Cool Guy [TM] appearing and giving his sermon about love and God and giving the proper thanks to God and praising Shanu for being the awesomest kid evar, and then goes into the song and dance. No subtitles for the talk, because I have no idea how to capture them. It's also 73 MB for 6 minutes of video, which is ridonkulous, but I haven't worked out how to get it smaller yet. I'll re-upload if I get it smaller. DivX codec. The sound is also off by a wee bit so they look like bad lip-synchers.

There's a copy on magatsu.net here, but you may not be able to reach it: Dreamhost is having server problems tonight. I'm uploading another copy to my other webspace and will edit when that's up. ETA: Another copy of the 74-ish MB version is here on my other website. I'm attempting to make a smaller copy - we'll see what happens with that.

heee!

If you've got high-speed net access, you can go to http://www.adultswim.com/adultswimfix and catch the current week's episode of Venture Brothers - the one that airs Sunday night is on the website by 6PM Friday, so you get it early.

And I have to say that this week's episode may, so far, be my favorite one ever. I'd have to see "Trial of the Monarch" again to experience "MECHA-SHIVA! MECHA-SHIVA!" once more to check, though.

Why didn't I follow my first impulse and attempt to trade my Saturday shift on the ref desk for Sunday when I found out that my apartment complex was going to be having a live DJ out at the pool today? The party is supposed to be from 2 until 5, but it's 12:30, they're testing, and they've unnerved the cat enought hat she's following me around.

And today I was going to do things like writing. Hah. It's times like this that I wish I had a laptop with wireless, but it looks like I'm going to have to do the low-tech thing of finding paper and pen and going somewhere to sit for three hours. Arg.

P.S. I hate coffee and there's only so much tea I can drink. Coffeehouses are not for me.

eesh

The live DJ outside my apartment has started half an hour early, and in an attempt to make everyone happy, is alternating country and hip-hop.

I am so outta here.

Ugh

5:45 and the party that was advertised to end at 5 is still going on, still alternating hip-hop and country with the occasional classic rock. I phoned the office at 5:30, intending to sweetly inquire if I was wrong in my assumption that the party was supposed to end at 5, but nobody was answering the phones, so I left a message that was a wee bit stronger, registering my annoyance at the advertising saying 5 and the noise still on at 6. If it's still going at 6, I may make my way over there and find one of the apartment office people.

I'm wearing earplugs and I can still hear the damn music.

ETA: 5:55 and they seem to have stopped. Hopefully.

wooo!

totally cool optical illusion.

ETA: It seems to require complicated shapes to look at afterwards - find something like the spines of DVDs or books on a shelf, or miniblinds, or busy patterns on fabric.

A British ... vaguely quiz-like show called QI, with Stephen Fry as the host. Posting it here so I'll have the link when I want to go watch more clips.
