Yes, there *are* areas of the nation where country is not regarded as something freakish. :)
I don't mind the old-style country that's really not far off folk, gospel and bluegrass (i.e., a lot like the stuff in O My Brother Where Art Thou?), but the whiny, twangy stuff is awful.
OTOH I've got a cover of Dolly Parton doing "Stairway to Heaven" which is totally awesome. XD
I can ignore country to an extent. Hiphop on the other hand makes it through all my defenses so I hear you. I have a coffeehouse around hear that makes some really good hot chocolate, so you may want to check that out if there is nothing better.
I like some country. And I like some hip-hop. But the important bit is ... if I wanted to listen to it, I would be playing it. Having it forced on me is not to my liking.
But they only do this once a year, so I can't really complain. Although it's FIVE FIFTEEN NOW AND THE DAMN THING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OVER AT FIVE.
I believe I owed you this song from a, er, while back~ (http://www.sendspace.com/file/3wj2bi)
Soon as I find the opera one, I'll upload that, too. In the mean time, here's Hakuna Matata (http://www.sendspace.com/file/297wyg) in Japanese while you wait.
several year ago (probably still today) the zone apartments in college station had "parties by the pool" with wall shakingly loud music that went on long after the advertised hours. it was awful. truely awful. especially when taking into account the dj's horrible taste in music.
