A British ... vaguely quiz-like show called QI, with Stephen Fry as the host. Posting it here so I'll have the link when I want to go watch more clips.
Oh. I only said that because today Mugglenet has a video clip involving the guy who plays Ron Weasley doing one of those video puzzle things on that show...then you mentioned it in your journal...weeeeerd...
(long-time lurker mangaphile Brit here - first found you via yhlee)
QI is one of the finest programs to grace British tv in many years. Well worth tracking down complete episodes if you can. Ones to watch out for in particular are the ones with guest stars Bill Bailey, Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear - I think this has also now hit the US?), and _especially_ Giles Brandreth, who is a Conservative politician on crack whose erudition and word-rate makes Stephen Fry look laconic.
*makes note* I watched two clips from this particular episode and fell in love. It's almost exactly like hanging out with my friends - going off into lon digressions on this-or-that and spouting tangentially related interesting facts. XD
If you haven't already heard of it, something else in a similar vein that you might like is the BBC radio programme "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue". It's much sillier and surreal than QI, but people who like one seem to tend to like the other.
I've heard of it, but I haven't listened to it. I listen to a lot of archived Radio 4 shows when I'm doing art on the computer; I'll make a note to track it down and try it. :D
QI is one of absolutely the very best thing on TV at the moment, and this was one of the very best episodes, with a panel of men any one of whol I would cheerfully marry, gay or not. (Whether they'd be happy is quite another matter, of course).
Seek out anything you can find of it - it's all solid gold.
I love British television. Yeah, there's an equivalent amount of dross on both sides of the pond, but the high points always seem to suit me better than the high points on American TV. *clutches downloads of Time Team tightly to her bosom* I think my favorite part of TT is the frisson of horror I get as they take backhoes to archaeological sites. XD
QI is very funny. I always try and watch it, well, when I remember it's on that is. I wish we'd make more humourous quiz shows like "QI" or "Have I got news for you", maybe I'd watch more TV then.
I think anyone with half a brain is happy to live in a world that has things like QI in it :) But I just love watching Stephen Fry come up with loads of little random facts as if anyone should know it. He's scarily intelligent and funny, it's just not fair! *eats his brain to increase IQ*
