Shortly after I posted the previous entry from my phone, Sora woke up, sat up,spent almost a minute sitting and looking around blearily, trying to place himself, then he stumbled his way off the bed. When I followed him to make sure he was okay, he got paranoid that I was going to take him to the vet and slunk off. So I stopped following, figuring he'd probably settle down somewhere if I left him alone, but would be at a worse chance of hurting himself if I kept following him.

But I have some pictures of him with his head shoved up my sleeve!

Cat story and photo of new library/dining room arrangement.

And that last pic leads us into the new library/dining room/gaming room! We were both too keyed up to work yesterday, so took the day off and kept our hands busy finishing it off. Only one photo, because I didn't think to take more, but you get the effect.

D.Va had her a little adventure today! As you know, Bob, Texas was hit by an ice storm last night, and as part of our storm prep we filled the guest room bathtub with water for toilet-flushing purposes in the eventuality that we lost water, either via our pipes freezing or something happening at the mains. We do not drink water from this tub, because the cats play in this tub. We have water containers for that.

D.Va and Sora investigated the tub last night, and were, at the time, aware that it contained water.

D.Va appears to have forgotten that in the heat of play, as myrialux and I heard a horrible noise and both rushed into the bathroom, only to find a trail of water splashes resolving into kitty pawprints running from the bathroom to behind the couch in the media room, which is where she hides when scared. She snuck out shortly afterward, but was freaked out and wouldn't let us come near her. She kept stopping to groom herself, and eventually I was able to touch her enough to ascertain that while she was indeed wet, the microsecond she spent flailing in the tub only wetted the guard hairs on her coat, and her undercoat was still dry. But she wouldn't let us dry her with a towel.

So we turned our gas fireplace on, set the ottoman in front of it, and she spent the afternoon there. She is now dry and toasty, and in a much better mood!

D.Va just drooled in my tea. :/

D.Va is a high-energy cat, and when she wants to play with her feather stick, she will drag it to you (YouTube link). That video shows a different feather stick, and her fetching it after I've thrown it, but her current favorite toy is a stick with feathers at the end of a string. She will drag this thing from one end of the house to another, at 3AM, at 10AM, whenever she wants to play.

My and myrialux's office doors are right next to each other, so when we're working and hear the telltale noise of it being dragged our way, we both pause and wait to see who the Chosen Victim is, because it could be either of us. myrialux got out of it a few times by mostly-shutting his door, since there's a bookcase right next to it that sort-of blocks it, but after D.Va learned she could open the door with a push while holding the feather end of the toy in her mouth, that's been a no-go strategy. (Which means during meetings he has to shut the door fully, as she hasn't learned how to operate the doorknob yet. She'll just sit outside and meow pathetically, then give up and come to me.)

Today, she dragged the toy into the office of myrialux. He played with her for a while, then when he flopped the feather end up onto the other chair in his office, she jumped up, grabbed it, then dragged the whole thing out the door and into my office. Of course I yelled "REEE-JECTED!!!" at myrialux before playing with her.

Anyway, I don't think I posted this video of her tail thrashing the curtain as she watched the cardinal nest in the tree outside my office window, mostly because it's pretty boring. There's also this other video I made one evening a couple of weeks ago. We've got a weighted blanket on one side of the bed (I get too hot for it, alas) and D.Va's figured out that if she digs at it, it moves in weird ways. And yes, that's the blanket itself moving and not the foot of either one of us. Having had a cat as a kid that attacked feet moving under a blanket, I have Very Strong Opinions about training a cat to attack feet moving under a blanket.

hahahaha myrialux is no longer Favorite Person. D.Va dragged her current favorite toy--a stick with feathers on the end of a string--into my office this morning. He came and got it to play with her in his office. She picked it up by the feather end and dragged it back into my office.

And this afternoon she did that THREE TIMES. He's currently not letting her drag it away and she's playing with him, but she has Strong Opinions about who she should be playing with. XD

D.Va managed, at some point last night, to lock herself into the spare bathroom. It's one of those jack-and-jill bathrooms with two doors, but we've got a clothes-drying rack installed behind one of the doors, so it was shut at the time. When playing, and, probably, rubbing her head on the door as cats do, she managed to shut the other door on herself.

We discovered this after we got up, when myrialux headed out to the kitchen to feed the cats, and she heard waking-up noises and started yowling.

sighs and adds "doorstops" to the grocery list

edit: We do wonder: if we were gone for a few days and she locked herself into a room, would Sora eventually go open the door to see what was up?

Up extra early this Sunday morning and washing the sheets because the cat puked on the bed and my arm.

Not the way I would have chosen to wake up. It's a good thing she's cute.
