Today's excitement...
Cut for vaguely icky cat health related symptoms, problem and treatment. Minor problems in the grand scheme of things and both cats are fine.
We noticed that D.Va was scooting her butt across the floor and licking herself a lot more than normal, so contacted the vet, who asked us to bring her in, because those symptoms were sometimes (1) a problem with anal glands and sometimes (2) worms.
myrialux took her in because I had a work meeting at the time. The vet said that because in case 1 the treatment would be a little painful for her, we should dose her with gabapentin a couple of hours before the appointment, as a painkiller and to calm her a bit.
So we got most of a capsule into a Pill Pocket and gave it to D.Va, who ate about half of it and kept spitting out the rest of the Pill Pocket, presumably due to a bitter taste from the med. We had been given 2, so
myrialux broke the second one open and mixed part of it with some tuna and gave that to her (and some untouched tuna to Sora).
D.Va ate about half of her tuna, in between
myrialux picking her up from Sora's tuna and taking her back to hers so we figured that was good. Within an hour she was definitely stoned, sleeping on the cat furniture in
myrialux's office.
The result of the appointment: her anal glands were full but she was otherwise healthy, so the vet expressed them (if you are unaware of this process, look it up. Or, rather, don't, and forget you ever heard about it). D.Va was Not Happy about this, as you would expect, and spent her first half hour back at home slinking around cautiously, tail clamped down. She's back to normal now, and has played with her favorite toy, so hopefully the memory of this visit will fade.
Anyway,
myrialux forgot to pick up the rest of the spiked tuna, and I didn't go into the kitchen until he got back and discovered it empty.
Yeah. Sora, the presumed tuna thief, ended up spending quite a lot of the late afternoon sleeping soundly in the inbox on my desk and is currently snoozing in a cardboard box under the other chair in my office. XD

Yeah, the first time I found out about anal gland expression...heh. That was definitely a thing.

If it's a problem again, the vet says the next step is to look into adding more fiber to her food. I know with dogs you can give them canned pumpkin, but I dunno with cats.
