And because no posts for days and days means I make multiple posts in one day, what I forgot to mention in my larger State of the Telophase post earlier is that we have discovered Sora, our older, special snowflake of a cat, does not like to pee in the dark.
He also does not like to pee where there are less than two exits, so he has trained us to put his litterbox in the jack-and-jill bathroom because he can make a quick exit one way or the other at need. He also periodically pees on the floor in the bathroom off the main bedroom when he's disgruntled about something*, and we have driven ourselves up several walls trying to figure out what's he's annoyed about this time each time he does it. Last week, after another spate of nightly floor-pees, I realized that the jack-and-jill bathroom is the darkest part of the house at night, and we didn't have a nightlight in it.**
It also has no outlets, but there's a light over the bathtub, so we turned that on last week and left it on ever since...
...and Sora has not once peed on the floor in our bathroom since. So he doesn't like the dark. Hm.
* he periodically gets crystals in his urine--not for years now, yay--but his inappropriate elimination follows vastly different patterns when he's having a flare, so we're confident it's not this, this time.
** I am of the DARK IT MUST ALL BE DAAARK AT NIGHT persuasion.
myrialux is of the WE MUST BE ABLE TO SEE WHEN WALKING AROUND AT NIGHT persuasion and as such we have an eclectic collection of nightlights here and there, none of which illuminate enough to not have to use your phone at night when stumbling around, so
myrialux and I are equally annoyed about the nighttime lighting situation.

I got some decently-bright Ikea LED nightlights that come on when the room is dark, meaning they are on 99% of the time in the windowless bathrooms. They can be swiveled to point down or wherever. My cat has one in his litterbox area, I hope he likes it.
