Wow, yeah, that auto-transcription was a thing of beauty. Yeah, the basic point is that a thunderstorm took out the ethernet port on my modem, so while my modem thinks that it's getting signal, it's not sending any of that signal to my computer. And that also means that I will probably be a couple of days on getting net access back at home, because I can't take today or Tuesday off of work. :) And I'm not looking forward to getting on the phone with the cable company and doing all the cable swapping that I did last night again. I know that they need to go through the full script with everyone, because so many people who claim they have technical know-how really don't, but aarg! My apartment's cable outlets and plugs and lights are arranged in the least efficient manner ever, so cable-swapping involves a hell of a lot of work.

I had scheduled yesterday to sit down and mail out all the various things that I am way the hell behind on mailing out, so naturally all my bloody addreses are in my email account. I'll be pulling those out today and getting them on my thumb drive, yes. :)

And now I'm all emo because nobody answered the quiz I texted to LJ. :(:(:(

Today at about 4:15, when I was trying to desperately get the minutes of a meeting written up and distributed so I could leave early, I got a phone call from my apartment complex. She started off with "The person in the apartment above you left water running all day..." and my first thought was of the not one, but TWO of you yahoos who've had your bathroom ceilings collapse this year due to leaks. Luckily, my bathroom ceiling is intact, but I can't say the same for the paint on my walls and my carpet. They ripped out the carpet padding and shampooed the rug in those areas today, and will be bringing in painters for the walls tomorrow (I can't see where these GINORMOUS DAMP SPOTS will be dry by tomorrow, but I'll see what happens), and once the carpet dries they'll replace the padding.

The cat is, naturally, thoroughly weirded out. Luckily, for me, not her, the vet's office called to remind me that her shots were due, so she's going to the vet early tomorrow morning to stay there while workmen trample in and out of the apartment all day and will be picked up in the evening. I am hoping the carpet-padding people help me put my furniture back in place because I can't lift the pieces they moved by myself, but if they don't, I think it's the least the complex can do and will be asking them for help.

I went and asked the details of what happened at the office, and it turns out the guy above me flushed and left for work without realizing that the toilet was OVERFLOWING and it overflowed aaaaaaaall day until he got home in the afternoon. I've got big wet patches on several of my walls and over parts of the ceiling, and of course wet carpet without padding. I spent some time thoroughly documenting it with my camera, in case I need it for future reference, like if they try to charge me for damage when I eventually move out.

Damage to my possessions so far seems to be limited to the child's kimono that [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija picked up for me at a Japanese flea market, and to the crappy fiberboard back of a dresser that cost all of a hundred bucks at Target. Nothing worth putting an insurance claim on, that's for sure. So far.

And now YOU can also see the damage )

The most ironic thing? My bathroom is perfectly undamaged, as far as I can tell. I guess the linoleum/vinyl/whatever flooring in this bathroom shunted the water out into the hall and living room.

Tron. Tron. NONE OF YOU FUCKERS WARNED ME ABOUT TRON!!!

Gah. Is it a rule that you have to have at least one world in every game whose every surface is COMPLETELY MIGRAINE-INDUCING?!

No migraine has appeared yet, but Tron is seriously not helping my current minor headache.

OK, farther into KHII right now. Still too much plot. Have just gotten to the Pirates of the Caribbean section and the "realistic" people are FREAKING ME THE FUCK OUT.

I also have weird qualms about the rushing around and opening chests (well, except for this pirate scenario when stealing is the in thing to do) especially if the owner is with me. I mean - in the Beast's castle, the Beast joins the party and wants to go rescue Belle rightwaythisveryminutenow, and I have to say: Hold on a second, dude, let me go LOOT your CASTLE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU while your girlfriend is KIDNAPPED BY HEARTLESS. There's just something not right about that.
cut for bitching about women, and KHII spoilery stuff that's only spoilery if you haven't seen the Disney movies, because they attempt to follow the damn plot of every damn movie referenced in the game, and a couple of KHI spoilers )

But I kind of liked the section where they got thrown into the past and ended up looking like early Disney B&W characters. XD

Honestly, is there a trick to the Glide ability in Kingdom Hearts? All the walkthroughs talk about the various things you can reach now that you've got the Glide ability, but I can't ever get Sora to do it. That last chest in the Lotus Room in Wonderland? Can't get it. The chest on the hedge at the Mad Tea Party? Can't get it. The ledge to get to the top of the pillar in the room off teh Entrance Hall in the Hollow Bastion? Can't get it. AARG.

I found out that this thing I've gotten is definitely going around campus - one of the women at the staff assembly meeting I dragged myself to had a sore throat and exhaustion last week. Of course *she* didn't have any coughing. What do I get tonight? Coughing. And when I get a cough with a cold, it's scary because I start and can't stop. It's now almost 1 AM on a weeknight and I haven't been able to get to sleep because I start coughing. I've just drugged myself with Nyquil and I guess I will sit here and watch Heroes 2 until I am so tired I can't help but fall asleep.

In conclusion: aarg.

Where did I put my leftover prints from A-Kon? Aarg!

Telecommuting tomorrow sounds real tempting, since I could print while doing webpagey updatey things.

Accomplished today:

Roast prepared and put into crockpot.
Doujinshi scanned and posted
Pumpkin pies made and put into oven*
Leftover eggs hard-boiled
Kitchen cleaned.
Plans laid for cooking Spring Vegetable Ragout, despite it not being spring**

Not accomplished today (so far):

Art.

*aarg* At least I won't have to cook for a week after this.

* Lactose-free pumpkin pie recipe: follow the directions on the can of pumpkin, but increase the eggs to 3 and use lactose-free whole milk instead of the evaporated milk. Cook as normal. Maybe a gourmet could tell the difference between that and regular pumpkin pie, but the majority can't.

Another version, totally dairy-free: follow directions on back of can, substituting one package of the softest tofu you can find, beat smooth with a blender/food processor type thing, for the evaporated milk. Cook as normal.

** Throw off the tyranny of the seasons!***

*** Are you going to ask for the recipe again? )
