Aarg!

Honestly, is there a trick to the Glide ability in Kingdom Hearts? All the walkthroughs talk about the various things you can reach now that you've got the Glide ability, but I can't ever get Sora to do it. That last chest in the Lotus Room in Wonderland? Can't get it. The chest on the hedge at the Mad Tea Party? Can't get it. The ledge to get to the top of the pillar in the room off teh Entrance Hall in the Hollow Bastion? Can't get it. AARG.

(I saw your post on friendsfriends and thought I'd try to be helpful. :) )

Are you hitting circle twice? Circle to jump and then circle again to glide while moving the direction you want to go. And for the areas where you're gliding off a ledge, try to get in the air and glide before the actual ledge, otherwise you'll probably find yourself hanging off it instead.

[identity profile] stardustmajick.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Er, I just realized I probably read your frustration wrongly and you know how to glide, just not how to get to the harder places. XD; Sorry. The only one I can remember giving me a hard time is the Mad Tea Party chest and the chest in the Hippo area of the Jungle. God, I hated those. I can't remember how I got the Tea Party chest, but I think it involved a lot of precarious positioning and an hour of cursing. I vaguely recall having to get onto the ledge of the house and jump from there.

Wait, could that be one of the chests that you get through a door from the Bizarre room? I think I remember finding one of the chests I had been trying to get by gliding through there and being very upset with myself about it.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help. ><;

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
:D Yeah, I've got Glide equipped and am hitting it twice - I just have really lousy aim or something. I did manage to jump on that ledge in the Hollow Bastion, and I *think* I managed to get the one in the Hippo area.*

The Tea Party hedge one you go through a door in ... the Bizarre room, I think, and end up on the ldege/balcony of the house there, and from there you're supposed to glide to it. Hrm.

The one in the Lotus Room, though ... I have no idea how I'm supposed to get to it.

Hey, no problem: any help is good. :D

* Something I told my f-list earlier: I spent part of my childhood in the Serengeti National Park, and saw real hippos there, and internalized exactly how dangerous they are, so therefore the Hippo Pool freaks me the hell out because you're supposed to swim there and OH GOD NO INSTANT DEATH BY HIPPO!!

[identity profile] stardustmajick.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
In the Lotus room, is it the one on the tree that's to the left of the entrance and clear across the room from the other ledge? Because I think that one has a door somewhere, too. I know at least one of the chests in the Lotus Room had a door that I was annoyed to find out about belatedly. (I'm stubborn about looking up faqs. ><;) God it's been...it's been at least two years since I played KH. I played it so many times between then and when it came out that I just couldn't bring myself to play it again before KH2 came out. XD;

Hippos are scary. I've never had any personal experience with them that way, but when I was a wee child, I was taken to Busch Gardens and there was this safari ride that ends with the boat getting "lost" and attacked by hippos and...I think I was scarred for life by it. >.>;

Yeah, the one to the left. Door, huh? Aarg. I feel like I'm cheating when I'm using walkthroughs, but I'm tired enough of this game that I just want to get it finished. And I'm not that much of a gamer - I own about six games total - and this is the only one I've come close to finishing. I stopped playing it for a long time, but got a used copy of KHII to sit on my television and taunt me until I finished this one.

[identity profile] stardustmajick.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a completionist so I had to get the special ending myself or I wouldn't have been happy. But really, if you're almost done with the game, have you considered not bothering with the dalmatians (both the Lotus chest and the Tea Room chest are dalmatians) and just playing the storyline/leveling up? Since you can look for Deep Dive on youtube, and it's the only reason I can think of to bother with all the extra side quests. It isn't worth the frustration, to be honest.

Mind if I friend you? :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
I've considered it. :D Other than finishing the game, really, the only thing I want to do is to fight Sephiroth. I've never played FFVII, but I currently have an unnatural fixation on Sephiroth, and once I found out that it's possible to fight him here, I was like MUST. FIGHT. SEPHIROTH. I really need to go back to Gamefaqs and figure out exactly what I'm supposed to do to be able to fight him, and figure out what I need to have in order to be able to last longer than, say, ten seconds.

Got no problem with that at all. :D Fair warning: I post a hell of a lot on normal days. XD

[identity profile] stardustmajick.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sephiroth. Oh man. That battle took me a heck of a long time. I can't give you strategy tips, because I uh, I suck at the whole fighting thing. I pretty much glide around and pray. You only have to beat Hades Cup for him to become available. And I recommend using your Elixers. You won't need them for Ansem, I pretty much only used Curaga with him. Sephiroth is serious business. XD (Currently, I'm one of the few people who played FF7 and doesn't actually like him. That might be a backlash from the huge fangirl crush I had on him when I was 12, though.)

Duly noted! I like people who update a lot. Gives me something to read. ;)

Hee. I discovered that Thundara was pretty good at hitting a lot of opponents at once and have started unleashing it a lot during fights, and other than that usually completely forget about doing magic. Mostlyb ecause I am uncoordinated and calling up the magic, even the ones on the shortcut menu, throws me for a loop and makes me go "Uh ... what?" as I manage to hit the wrong buttons and do somethign weird instead.

I may be getting FFVII for Christmas - the techieboy "Hmmmmed" speculatively when I mentioned that I was vaguely interested in playing it, just because it was a geek classic.

[identity profile] kitsunesan.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
As for the chests in Wonderland, those ones are seriously just trial and error. I couldn't get them for the longest time, cause it's all about finding the exact right spot on the table or on that hedge and taking a good running leap, closing your eyes and praying. *hugs* Stick with it, it'll either happen eventually, or you'll put your controller through the tv.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
The controller is quite close to going through the TV now. D: I'm about to hit a boss fight with Maleficent and ARG NO SAVE POINT NEARBY I HATE THAT.

[identity profile] unrelatedwaffle.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Firstly, make sure it's equipped (it's under shared abilities). When it is equipped, it's circle, and while you're in the air, press and hold circle. Getting to some things is a lot of trial and error (especially Merlin's room. . .*grumble grumble*). I still need to beat that game. I'm at the stage where I'm just leveling up, and leveling up. . .and. . .*snore* I'm bored and want to play FFXII!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's equipped. :) I am just lousy at aiming or something.

If you go fight the Pegasus Cup, it's a fairly quick way of leveling up. I managed to go up almost a level for every time I went through it, even when I didn't kill Leon and Yuffie at the end and I HATE HATE HATE YUFFIE and don't care if you just "defeat" them instead of killing them ... I KILLED THE BITCH.

[identity profile] unrelatedwaffle.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been doing the Hades Cup, which (I think?) is the last one. There are 50 levels and you can start from any tenth level you want. I usually don't fight the bosses, either, because it's SO TEDIOUS. I can level up just as much in less time fighting little enemies over and over.

Why DID they change his name to "Leon"?

Gliding and Sephie

[identity profile] isancho.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Been awhile since I played KH1, but aren't there also high-jump abilities? Equiping skills that let you jump as high as possible, as well as waiting a little bit before you start your glide, can help in reaching long distance chests.

Also: lbh trg n snfg-tyvqr novyvgl arne gur raq bs gur tnzr. This may help, and may be useful for fighting Sephie, too.
(very minor spoilers, but just in case, I wanted to rot13 it)

Re: Gliding and Sephie

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've got high-jump, glide, and the Mermaid Kick, which is almost completely useless except for one spot in the game, because you get it late in the Atlantica sequence, and there's really no other serious underwater area. :/

Re: the spoiler - ah, that may be helpful, and I'll have to try waiting for a bit, too. :D Thanks!
