Linkblogging of a Sunday morning

Also, what happens when you cross Civil War reenactors with comic book fans.
Also: I have to work later on this afternoon, so entertain me! In a worksafe manner! Without sound, since the computer I'm at has no speakers!

Apr. 16th, 2006 12:14 pm(Don't click on the link if you're squeamish about blood. :D) This is why I need to remember to wear shoes when playing with the cat. Completely accidental - she was rolling on the floor attacking the string I was dangling and rolled over onto my foot at just the wrong time. She's done it before, too - running after the string and took a shortcut across my foot.
At any rate, the only time she has ever deliberately scratched me was when she was at the vet and after being given shots and poked and prodded and her dignity assaulted, she wasn't about to get back in her carrier (presumably because I was going to use it to ... take her to the vet again? My cat, she is not so much with the logic), and hissed at and scratched me when I cornered her. She's otherwise a really easygoing cat.
( And now, a pic the way she is most of the time, to dispell the wildcat rep she's now gotten from that other picture. )

Africa letters
Apr. 16th, 2006 02:55 pmAnd now for another round of announcing, since there's been enough new people starting to hang out here: when I was a kid from the ages of four to six, my family lived in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania* while Dad did research for his PhD in wildlife science.** Mom wrote a bunch of letters home to my grandparents, and one of my ongoing projects has been to type them all in. I'm about 3/4 of the way through right now.
Anyway, I've been posting them under filter and tagging them withafrica letters (ETA: there's now over 100 letters, so the tag function won't pull up all of them - I'm changing the tags as we speak to "africa letters 1974" "africa letters 1975" and "africa letters 1976"). If you'd like to be on that filter and read them, drop a note here and let me know and I'll put you on it.
* This is why Toto's "Africa" can get me all teary-eyed and nostalgic at inopportune moments.
** He didn't study anything cool, like lions or whatnot: his dissertation had something to do with grass heights and bird species. :D

my cat is weird...
Apr. 16th, 2006 08:16 pm...but, then that's normal.
Why does she like all these BPAL scents enough to try to lick them, but won't touch meat? (Other than pork, which makes her throw up.) CAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOU.
ETA kittyspam.
( If I look close enough, I think I can see the Horsehead Nebula. )

A-Kon Art Show
Apr. 16th, 2006 09:24 pmIf any of you think you want to hang art in the A-Kon Art Show in June, registration is open. Due warning: the site is annoying - you need to register, and then poke around until you can find the form without it logging you out.
You don't have to pay until the end of May or so, but it's a good idea to at least register, if you're going to hang work.
ETA: Speaking of art shows, is anyone going to Otakon who is willing to act as my agent and hang art for me if I get a couple of panels there? This is if they don't allow mail-in artists - ISTR that they didn't last year, but I could remember that wrong. If I have to have an agent attending the con to hang my stuff, I'll send you the money to pay for shipping unsold art back to me, and give you a print beside that. :D Just got a victim volunteer. :D

She also sent along a knitted cat-toy-type thing, which is apparnetly stuffed with catnip, judging by my cat's reaction.
