(no subject)
Aug. 20th, 2005 11:32 amI have this thing about mixing my BPAL reviews with other types of posts; I think it's my organizational librarian database person coming out and refusing to let me mix subject matter, so you get to deal with it. :D
In interesting medical news: my mother has officially been diagnosed with Dupuytren's contracture. Not life-threatening or anything by any means, but interesting - it's when bands of tissue in your hand thicken and pull fingers in. They won't do surgery unless the contracture gets beyond a certain point, because hand trauma is one of the things they think may cause it, and it will recur after surgery anyway. Seems to occur almost exclusively in people of northish European extraction: Germany, Scandinavia, the UK - the doctor apparently thought there was a major hotbed of it in Ireland. :) We're English/Scots/German/French, so that's not surprising.
Seems to have a strong genetic component, though, so I'll now be obsessively poking at my hand for the rest of my life.
And, yay, I've got hotel-room space at AnimeFest for Saturday and Sunday nights (thank you
yankeerose69!); now to find Friday accomodation. I may just splurge on that myself - three nights was a little high, but one night is probably doable. There's just no way I'm commuting from Fort Worth (although if I have another look at my credit-card bill, commuting may seem quite sensible. XD)

Otakon cosplayers
Aug. 20th, 2005 03:09 pmOtakon's going on, and I'm poking through A Fan's View looking for people I know (haven't found any yet). They've got the Friday cosplayers up now. From what I understand, the Death Note group photo shoot was supposed to happen this morning (Sat), so maybe there'll be some photos from that up by this evening.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered the Saiyuki Series Perfect Guide Sayubito that a few of you on my f-list have been crowing about. Did it from amazon.co.jp and ahve been all proud that I managed to figure out from this all-Japanese email that there was a problem with my credit-card number (I think I typed it in wrong - the card itself is fine), and got it taken care of. I didn't pay for fast shipping or anything, so wasn't expecting it for another four weeks.
( Guess what showed up today? )

BPAL review: Bordello
Aug. 20th, 2005 07:24 pmOK, got three more imps in the mail today.* Was going to continue with the order I'd set up on my dorky little spreadsheet, until I popped the cap off of this one and smelled it.
( Oh. My. God. )
* Hey, when I throw myself into a hobby, I throw hard. But starting next week, I should have a pretty good idea of what does and doesn't work on me, and have a buncha imps to swap. XD
You know, I really feel like I ought to put on some Gluttony if I'm going to be working on my Mello picture. but the Bordello stays ... tough!

BPAL summary:
Aug. 20th, 2005 08:45 pmA quick rundown of the things that really worked on me and the things that didn't. If any of you have suggestions on what I should put on my wishlist or avoid based on this, let me know. The links go to my own reviews.
