telophase: (Bleach - dork squad)
Yay, it's finally got a second season so I can watch high-strung hairdressers spaz out over having only an hour to do a hairstyle, then snark with my stylist over how he does four styles an hour at hair shows and the contestants are all whiners for complaining about having an hour.

If there's anyone local who's looking for a tech-type job, the library just posted two positions for overnights starting this fall. $16.80/hour, 40 hours/week, one year-round, one a 10-month appointment. Go here and choose "library" in the department drop-down menu.
telophase: (Dr Who - Captain Jack fanservice)
[livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry is building up steam, with over 200 members and a little over 100 offers. But I note a serious imbalance in the offerings here: there's tons of live-action fandom offers of fic, art, etc. but very few animated fandom offers (Besides, *ahem* mine). Anime fans represent! Go sign up and offer! I know I've got a lot of good artists and writers on my f-list, and I'd love to see you over there!
telophase: (Bleach - Aizen and Gin dance!)
I have to tell you I am watching the MOST AWESOMETASTIC MOVIE EVAR!! I mean, I came into this thing expecting Cheese Factor Nine, and we have gone beyond Cheese Factor Nine, Ten, Eleven, and well into Cheese Factor Warp Hyperdrive!! I mean, everything about this movie is amazingly awesome in the most cheesetastic way ever.

A few clues about it:

-- it's available via Netflix
-- it's Japanese
-- there are martial arts
-- cheese factor aside, the cinematography is gorgeous
-- it has an amazingly stupid title that is somehow perfect
-- if this wasn't a manga before it was made, it damn well ought to have been! (Actually it's got more of a manhwa seinen-equivalent vibe, if you ask me)
-- so far, twenty minutes in, none of the characters has a name

Grabbing screencaps like mad. I cannot wait to recap this for y'all.

THAT'S IT

telophase: (Jaken - FluffAir)
IT'S NO GOOD KILLING YOU WHEN YOU'RE NOT AT THE TOP OF YOUR GAME is shounen for I LOVE YOU.
telophase: (Bleach - Aizen and Gin dance!)
You know what's awesome? When a writer goes "You know what would make this movie better? NINJA ZOMBIES IN JESTER HATS." And the director says "YES."
telophase: (Bleach - Aizen and Gin dance!)

Wow.

All right, my friends, I have just finished watching the ultimate shounen experience that is inexplicably known as Death Trance.

It has:

-- martial arts
-- sword fu
-- gun fu
-- motorcycle fu*
-- a swordsman dragging a coffin wrapped in chains around
-- followed by a little girl
-- Steven Seagal's son
-- and his hair
-- a bazooka
-- vampire spiders
-- ninja zombies in ninja jester hats
-- phallic weapons
-- mysterious monks
-- mysterious swordsmen
-- great heaping wodges of symbolism
-- spewing rose petals**

You'll have to wait until this weekend for me to give you a long recap of it, but my finger was spasmodically hitting alt-C throughout the entire thing, and I took NINE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FIVE screencaps, so I can assure you I have thorough proof of this movie's awesometasticness.

THIS MOVIE IS BETTER THAN AABRA KA DAABRA AND THAT IS A BOLLYWOOD MUSICAL THAT RIPS OFF BOTH HARRY POTTER AND CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY.

THAT IS HOW AWESOME DEATH TRANCE IS.

* This was the point at which I paused the movie, loaded Amazon.com, and bought the damn thing.

** This was the point at which I could not stop laughing.
