[livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry is building up steam, with over 200 members and a little over 100 offers. But I note a serious imbalance in the offerings here: there's tons of live-action fandom offers of fic, art, etc. but very few animated fandom offers (Besides, *ahem* mine). Anime fans represent! Go sign up and offer! I know I've got a lot of good artists and writers on my f-list, and I'd love to see you over there!

I'm working on it! I'm working on it!

(But yeah, I woke up this morning to discover a flood of Harry Potter offers!)

:D It obviously got pimped on a comm or journal read heavily by HP fans. XD

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Taking into consideration that I hardly ever get comments on my stories and tend to be very slow to write in general, I didn't think that offering fic would be a good idea. I'm thinking of offering some comics collectables, though. I just need to make up my mind to do it.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I've noticed that until someone gets a huge fic following, there really aren't that many comments given. If you look at [livejournal.com profile] springgreen's and [livejournal.com profile] edonohana's LJs, you can see how few comments they tend to gather on any given piece, and yet they write so well someone would be willing to bid for them, I bet.

I also think that possibly the Sweet Charity auctions tend to have a live-action fan audience, partly because that's mostly who's offering, and because it's pimped more in those circles. None of the anime comms and most of the anime fans I watch have mentioned it at all in the past year or so, while the live-action fans have. I'm doing my best to change that. XD (I'm sure it's also a factor that there's a general skew in ages towards older for live-action and younger for animated, though.)

No, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide has convinced me that I'm pretty much just not that good. When people complain about there not being enough stories in a fandom and then don't leave comments on one anonymous story while heaping the others with praise, that tells me all I need to know. Which is fine, I do it because I want to, and not because I think I'm great. I just don't think it would be fair to ask someone to pay for a story that probably isn't any good.

I think a new in box set of Legion of Superheroes figures and a signed poster from the early 90s are probably better candidates. People know precisely what they're getting when they go to put their money down.

I wasn't comfortable doing fic on demand either, because I didn't feel like I could really guarantee it in a reasonable timeframe.

Some of the coolest things there I think are the items. (I'm seriously considering just how much I'd be willing to pay for a custom made historical doll costume.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm repeating to myself: "I don't need pottery; it's one more thing to collect dust!"

[identity profile] janni.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, the pottery is lovely, too!

And then there are those graphic design services. My business cards really do need an overhaul and a set of outside eyes ...

I personally want the plot bunny.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I want a Mia pendant [livejournal.com profile] chimera_fancies and a hand-knit lace shawl, and a Jayne hat-handbag ("A haaaaaaaaaandbag?!), and a plot bunny. And cake. And I kind of want the wooden dildo too, though I don't know where I could display it and it's so pretty it ought to be displayed.

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Every time I look at the baked goods offerings I have to pinch myself (well, virtually) and remind myself that, dammit, I am perfectly capable of baking for myself if I want baked goods! Because there is no way Joe would authorize me bidding on baked goods.

[identity profile] janni.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
So, in what time zone does bidding begin? :-)

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
12:01 AM (midnight) July 1, Pacific Time.

[identity profile] vom-marlowe.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a custom made historical doll costume?!?! I must've missed that. *dashes to check it out*

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd consider offering fic except it stresses me out terribly. Ditto vids. *sigh* (Besides, the only source I have all of is Angel and Neon Genesis Evangelion, and there is no way in heck I can vid either source without scarring the lizard for life.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of anime and the lizard, I think Yu Yu Hakusho might be one that's lizardable. Basic setup is that Yuusuke is a kid from the wrong side of the tracks always getting in fights. One day he's hit by a car while pushing a little kid out of the way, and since he was a bad kid killed while doing a good deed, Heaven has no idea what to do with him and gives him a second chance. So he ends up as a Spirit Detective, tracking down rogue spirits. (Of course what it ultimately ends up being is a shounen tournament show, but by then you're invested in the characters, who are mostly all memorable.)

I noticed the lack of anime fics! I considered it, but in the end, I'm just not comfortable making people pay for my fanfic, since it tends to be rather hit-or-miss, and I have trouble doing longer fics. Since I do love writing longer original fics, however, I decided to have a crack at offering original fic. Not sure how that'll play, but hey. :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You never know! XD

[identity profile] vom-marlowe.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes'm.

Not that anyone will likely pony up cash for Y/A kink, but you never know.

I want some of those thing so bad. Those baked goods! The web design! The brownies! The dildoes! The plot bunnies!!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, you never know until you try. :D And hey: even if nobody bids on it, you did your part. XD

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! I figure if I've offered three things, even if I'm almost positive two of them won't get bid on, you never know.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Anything's possible! I got an early bid on my iPod cozy already, to my shock.

I have stalker pinned the hand-dyed yarn.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
You know, my problem is that I don't do fanfic or fanart, I can't create crafts to save my life, and no graphic I've ever made is worth money...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
That hasn't stopped a lot of people Wait, did I just say that out loud?

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I have considered "DO BUY IT NOW AND I WILL MAKE YOU ICONS!!!!" but I don't think I make anything even worth that...
