P.S. about the con --

My table was directly across from the DDR machine and now I no longer fear Hell. MY GOD I AM GOING TO BE HEARING THAT IN MY SLEEP.

The convention AnimeFest here in Dallas-Fort Worth over Labor Day is running a comic strip, doujinshi and original manga short story contest, and I thought that some of you would be interested in knowing about it. You do not have to attend AnimeFest to enter. Deadline July 15th.

edits to add:

Oh yes, they also have an annual AMV contest, and I KNOW that some of you who read me journal are avid vidders, whether anime or otherwise, and having inside info - i.e., I know one of the judges - they often have dismal, dire entries and would LOVE to see some good anime music videos, so I highly encourage you to either enter it, or pass this on to your friends who do anime vidding because we'd all love to see some really good competition. Go to http://www.animefest.org and poke around for details.

I could just edit my previous post, or I could just wait until i've gone trhough my mail and DeviantArt stuff and put all my links and little info posts into one bi post, but you know? I'd really rather make you all scroll through eleventy million posts of mine. Because I am just that sort of person.

This is to point out [livejournal.com profile] ninjashira's little riff on one of [livejournal.com profile] coffee_and_ink's Saiyuki analyses here.

[livejournal.com profile] homasse, or actually anyone who reads this, if you ever run across a Totoro earstick, please buy it and let me know the price and I will send it to you instanter. I ahve friends who once saw a Totoro earstick at a con when they were looking for wacky Totoro merchandise, didn't buy it, and have regretted it ever since and been unable to find another one. I would so totally gain ultra-cool points if I could supply them with such an object. If there are any available anywhere anymore, which I am convinced is, sadly, probably the case.

A-Kon 2005. Got there Thursday morning after catching a ride from one of the dealer's room directors, and after having about 3 hours of sleep. Note that I'd had about 4 hours of sleep the night before, so I was mostly strung out and developed a migraine over the course of the day. Not fun. Anyway, helped with setup as much as I could in a brain-dead state to in exchange for crash space in the dealer liaison crash suite Thursday night since my roommates weren't getting in until Friday.

Cut because it's getting long )

What? You want to know about the panels I attended and the other events happening at the con? Sorry. I stuck to the Komik Market for the most part. :)

I met a lot of LJ and DA people and with my brain like a sieve have forgotten most of them, and due to my innate laziness don't want to tax my brain to dredge out of memory the names/nicks of the ones I do remember. But hi, guys! *waves*

You can find lots of pictures of the con and some reports on events at the A-Kon pages on A Fan's View. I'll update the next post with links to that site pointing out costumes I thought were good or that are people I know. :)

Last part, with a few pictures from A Fan's View. I went through ALL the cosplay pictures trying to find the Death Note cosplayers, but no dice. Ah well, there are costumes I remember that didn't get on the many, many pages of photos, and costumes on those pages that I don't remember seeing at all.

The English translation of the first Vampire Hunter D novel is out! Nobody had it that I could see at A-Kon - the manga pickings were very slim, due I expect to the sheer mass of manga in the stores nowadays - but I found it totally by accident at Barnes & Noble when I went there this afternoon. So, yay. And I splurged on Bangkok Tattoo in hardback, since I liked Bangkok 8 so much. Now if only the next Blade of teh Immortal trade would hurry up and hit the shelves, I'd be one ecstatically happy camper.

[livejournal.com profile] eegatland, I have conclusively proven that The Winter Prince is not in any bookstore I can conveniently get to, so I'm going to have to break down and interlibrary loan it if nobody sends it to me stares intently at [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija.
