P.S. about the con --

My table was directly across from the DDR machine and now I no longer fear Hell. MY GOD I AM GOING TO BE HEARING THAT IN MY SLEEP.

Stepmania is also really annoying. Ultra fast clickity clicks when you're trying to concentrate on anything else... x_X

Oh... er, I'm reading my friends of friends page. So I'm not a completely random stranger. Just a sort of random stranger.

They had three different competing DDR machines in the arcade area they set up in front of the A-Kon Komik Market. I think DDR Max was the one directly in front of me, but the beats all collided. There was another one that had sensors where you waved hands as well, but I wasn't close enough to see what game it was, and after the total sensory overload at my table, I wasn't about to venture closer.

*waves* Well, have fun with the friendsfriends. I do that, too, when my friends aren't updating fast enough to keep me entertained. :)

Oh my, that's amusing. Yes, I can imagine one would be ready to slit their wrists with a sewing needle by the end. :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
I had to ask people to repeat themselves many, many times, and I'm actually a little bit hoarse from screaming at people all the time.

[identity profile] jspurlin.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
you do realize that the Cepheid hangout at A&M for "lunch and several hours of random time a day" is ten feet from a DDR machine, don't you? (you do now, at least)

i have an immunity to DDR annoyance, as long as people *glare* don't STOMPSTOMPSTOMP the machine...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
*wince* I really got out of CS just at the right time, didn't I? :)

[identity profile] usmangaka.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
mmm... delicious.

I imagine your nostrils must have loved being right next to the ddr machine, considering the lovely stench that tends to emenate from hours of otaku dance activities.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No, we were about 25 feet away from the machine, so it was all NOISE.

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
...did you at least get a traffic boost from it?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't say for sure - the spot we ended up in was actually on the main way of getting from point A to point B, so I don't know how much of it was DDR-related.

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yay that you were on the main drag after all. Did you do well?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Better than last year. Won't know for sure until I do my final count, and I was so tired yesterday that I didn't trust myself to count money. :)

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool. Can't blame you for wanting to be rested for the final count!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Not entirely rested, but I did the final count a few times until it came out to match when counted in two dirrefent ways twice. :) (Yes, I know what the level of my money-counting skills is, which isn't high.) I was off by $5 the first time, which is a nice round number and makes me confident I just miscounted the fives the first time. And after taking out [livejournal.com profile] pzb's cut for the prints she sent me to put on the table, I still had more than I made last year.

Which means that I sold more than last year, because I dropped my prices this year. Whee!

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's wonderful!

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
What is DDR? Dungeons, Dragons, and Ranting?

[identity profile] usmangaka.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Drunk duck racing! It's a traditional convention event in the distant land of Texas, or so I hear.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a video game. A dance video game. Dance Dance Revolution (http://aaroninjapan.com/ddr7.html). Loud techno beat going on ALL THE TIME. And there were FOUR different types of DDR and DDR-like machines there.

[identity profile] city-glitter.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
(I'm the person who bought the Itachi print from you Saturday and the Jiraiya + Tsunade print from you Friday.)

You could HEAR the DDR machines through all that...noise of human fire hazard?! o.o

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, God, yes. That relentless beat and the pounding of feet on the pads undercut all the other noise on a cellular level. :)

[identity profile] city-glitter.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry. Perhaps we'll be unscathed by Hell; I myself am vaguely traumatized by some of the Sailor Moon cross-dressing cosplay.;;;;;;;;;;;

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I've managed to become inured to crossplay after 7 years of attending A-Kon. My brain just shuts itself off. I'm still not inured to cheap fabric from the sale table used for costumes or to those who think that a stretchy, clingy fabric is a good option if they're not wearing adequate support garments, though. :/

[identity profile] the-z.livejournal.com 2005-06-06 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm jealous you still have the ability to hear :(

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-07 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's still kind of dull. I had to ask the man at the counter to repeat himself like three times when I was getting [livejournal.com profile] pzb's money order today, and the same at the post office.
