Tons of finches, of course, but some not-finches are appearing on and around the feeder. Doves, cardinals, and something sparrowlike I'm calling a LIttle Brown Job for now.

With bonus brood parasite!

The avian pox is still among the finches this year. And this guy's got it bad.

Meet Fatticus Inch and One-Eye! (Winner of the Name The Fat Finch competition suggested on Facebook.* There will probably be more Name the Finch competitions coming, as I am starting to be able to tell some of them apart.)

Cut because this is one finch that won't fit into a blog post! )

* As I invariably get one or two people friending me on FB when I mention it here: please go ahead and do so, just let me know who you are over here so I don't drive myself crazy going "Do I know this person?"

The finch with the big leg tumor is back, so he's not dead yet. But I took a bunch of photos this afternoon, and it looks like he may have another one starting right near his right eye, so I fear for him. There's another finch whose other leg is affected - I can't tell how badly, but she sat all hunkered down for the afternoon, not standing with her legs straight out, and I wonder if it's due to the tumor.

I'll eventually post the photos; don't want to process them tonight. (The first finch is definitely male - his color is starting to come in!)
