I didn't either until I posted a picture of the other finch and movingfinger told me. And then I looked it up and learned more. :)

It's both interesting and AUGH POOR THINGS! But it seems that it *is* survivable if the bird gets enough to eat and it doesn't attack the eyes, nose, and throat. I've just seen leg infections around here, so I hope the bird feeder is doing some good!

Yeah, I suspect helping them stay fed and bleaching the feeders does a lot of good.
