Back from ConDFW!
Feb. 18th, 2018 03:50 pmIt was a con. We always have a disaster of some sort, usually weather-related (argh Snowpocalypse year!), and this year was the Plague Year.
We ended up down one (1) Guest of Honor because of a gallbladder that insisted on coming out this week, and four (4) panelists and two (2) staff members due to the Martian Death Flu. The hotel was the usual hotel at a con, with the usual problems with being unable to understand things that were specified clearly in the contract they'd signed off on.
We had a
yhlee here for the con as well, and had a fantastic time visiting. And made sure to stuff him so full of Texas food that he had to roll to the airport to get home.
yhlee wasn't able to make this panel, being in another state by the time it happened, so asked me to take notes. Here we go!

Feb. 16th, 2016 01:50 pmConDFW went pretty well, all things considered. We had the usual problems that one always has with a hotel, with the added bonus of not being informed that the hotel had booked a REVIVAL with LIVE MUSIC in the ballroom next to our panel rooms on Sunday, so that the panelists pretty much had to scream to be heard. (And after it was over, a group of revival attendees gathered in the lobby, blocking panel rooms, to chant and whatnot, so our director called Security on them.)
This elevator panel in the parking garage really kind of encapsulates it:

On a more personal level, I managed to whack my head really hard on the door frame of the car when we left to go watch Deadpool Friday night. My head is fine, but it screwed up my shoulder and part of my upper back. I took one of my muscle relaxants* last night, which has cleared my shoulder up, but revealed the pulled muscle that's causing all the problems, which is a small spot right next to my spine. Arg. There is no postural position except for laying down flat on my back in which the pain goes away.
(Deadpool verdict: enjoyed it quite a lot.)
* Part of the migraine prevention toolkit--as tension headaches often trigger migraine, if I've got a tension headache I'm supposed to take one of these right before bed.

Jan. 20th, 2016 08:31 pmConDFW site hit by malware so instead of doing all the OTHER things I need to do, I am now fixing that. Harrumph.
I leave you with this gif, which I trust needs no explanation because you aren't getting any.

Latest Wordpress update broke the way the theme I made displays category posts (i.e., the list of categories gets a 404) so guess what I get to spend Labor Day doing? Yes, that's right, recoding a *&^*^& theme! Because now the ConDFW website doesn't display a nice list of guests when you ask it to, instead it displays a 404 page.
It's definitely fault of the child theme I coded--I've checked all the plugins and its not them, and it works when I deactivate the child theme and stops working when I re-activate it. Man, I don't even know where the hell to start looking to find the problem. :P
