our internet is out--area-wide outage is all we know--and our house is in a
hole so we get spotty cell reception.

THIS SITUATION IS BARBARIC

For your amusement, a small project I coded with [personal profile] yhlee, the author of the Machineries of Empire series: hexarchate Tarot readings. Card meanings by [personal profile] yhlee, code and spreads by me. :)
No art right now, just meanings. The 78-card jeng-zai deck corresponds to the traditional Tarot but is specifically a hexarchate Tarot circa Kel Cheris' era. As such, upright sixes are all positive while upright sevens are negative, and the fours are lucky/unlucky.

This site is for entertainment purposes only: neither guarantees nor apologies are given for the accuracy or inaccuracy of any reading you may receive, and no responsibility is taken for any calendrical rot that may ensue. Hopefully you do not live in the hexarchate.
No spoilers if you haven't read anything in the series (Ninefox Gambit, Raven Stratagem or any of the short stories), although you might be mildly confused and not get some of the jokes.

And here is the full picture that I painted for [personal profile] selenite0's Torchship Captain cover I posted yesterday:

Why paint so much that's just going to be covered by the title and top image of a face? (a) portfolio work and (b) to potentially sell as prints. :)

(also: the window started from a 3D program and the wall started from a copyright-free set of textures, and then I painted over them and photomontaged stuff into them. I can't draw lines that straight.)

And I made a book cover from it.

Torchship Captain Book Cover by sfolse on DeviantArt

Torchship Captain, the cover of the third book in Karl K. Gallagher's (aka [personal profile] selenite0) science fiction trilogy. I'll get the version of the cover without the title and the face on top posted before too long. I kinda forgot to send it to myself and I'm at work right now

If anybody happens to wander by and sees this, and is in the market for a book cover painting or a cover made from stock photos I can do that!

Ah, that feel when you're fighting a necromancer and he resurrects two draugr who immediately start fighting him while you can barely shoot your crossbow for laughing.

man, gotta love those spammers who rely on people using their real names in their email addresses. "Are you telophase14 from Old School?" is the one I just got. (and it actually says "Old School"; I didn't elide that for privacy or anything.)

In other news, definitely feeling better--this is either the weirdest damn cold I've ever had or the weirdest damn allergy attack I've ever had, in that it was a cold for two and a half days and then mostly quit, leaving behind a bit of a cough, a bit of a sniffle, and exhaustion.

Last week I posted under lock about a mysterious bump on my thyroid and sore throat that I'd gone to the doc for. Had the scan on Wednesday, got the results on Friday: just a cyst. Yay. Doc says we'll rescan in a year unless it changes dramatically.

Mom came up this weekend to go to one of the local art museums, which has an exhibition of paintings from a collection that focuses on the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including a lot of Impressionists. Alas, I am just not an Impressionist type of person. The painting I liked best was Alfred Sisley's Snow at Louveciennes, and that was because it reminded me of tramping through the snow in Arashiyama, Kyoto--the small hilly village, the snow, the feeling of cold in the air.

I pretty much spent the time Mom wasn't here playing Skyrim, and have come up with an actual motivation for Murderface 2.0! That shall wait for a real post. Let's just say it's petty and completely disproportionate to his actions.

I have discovered a brand of lactose-free yogurt and have been eating yogurt pretty steadily over the past few days thanks to antibiotic side effects, the less said about which the better. But plain yogurt with maple syrup is rather addictive.

And to end it all with, I now have another sore throat, which is much more obviously a respiratory-related thing than last week's was, and I am expecting to come down with a cold Any Moment Now, given my general run-down feeling right now. Alas. (I may be continuing to play Skyrim, in that case...)

Well, I work about two miles away from this zoo, so I could go and be disdained by this giraffe calf in person.

Theoretically. The air is about the temperature of boiling right now and the idea of actually setting foot on zoo grounds is not that tempting, really, even with the possibility of being personally disdained.

just learned, after nuking my frozen tv-dinner-type lunch but before eating it, that pineapple has the same effect as grapefruit on antibiotics, especially those in the family that the I'm taking is in. Cooking may denature the enzyme that has the effect, but I can't get a specific answer as to whether or not 3 minutes of nuking (and whatever prep it might have had before) would destroy it.

Given that I'm allergic to a cousin of this AB* and that the bad effect is that it slows the elimination of it from the body, it's very much not worth risking it, especially as the last bad AB reaction I had kept me out of work for a very unhappy week. Dammit, it smells so good, too.

* both doc and pharmacist are well aware, and I have been given strict instructions to keep an eye on certain symptoms and phone immediately if they show up.

eta: and of course the library cafe isn't carrying the usual salads and sushi since it's summer. so i have a thing of instant oatmeal for lunch. I also brought cheese sticks, so it's not all I'm having, and we start our conversational Italian class tonight through campus' extended ed program, so we'll be eating dinner early. It's just Not Satisfying when I had my heart set on black bean chicken with pineapple sauce. Bah.
