Pull The Football - Save the World by [personal profile] rachelmanija.

Are you worried about nuclear war? I am too. Keep reading for a way to stop it with one simple action.

Maybe you feel small and powerless. But many snowflakes make an avalanche. If we all move in the same direction, we'll be unstoppable. We will only fail if we choose not to act.

Trump has the power to order a pre-emptive nuclear strike for any reason - or no reason at all. He's always shadowed by a man with a briefcase of codes, called the "nuclear football," to enable him to launch nuclear missiles at any time. It would take less than five minutes from his order to the missiles being launched, and no one could stop him. Republican Senator Bob Corker says Trump is leading us into World War III. I believe him.

But we don't have to stand by and let it happen. Let's pull away that football!

Both House and Senate have bills to prevent the President from launching a pre-emptive nuclear strike without a congressional declaration of war. They're both called the Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act of 2017. Passing those bills may literally save the world.

Last night I dreamed I was organizing an LJ comm for an episode-by-episode viewing of and commentary on Trigun. I spent most of the dream working out the tags for it.

And in the same vein of working-out-the-tags, [livejournal.com profile] helptheproject is closing in 7 days! With some stupefyingly low bids on some primo stuff!

Stolen from [personal profile] rachelmanija and [personal profile] coffeeandink:

[livejournal.com profile] con_or_bust is back! It's running another fundraiser to assist people of color who want to attend WisCon. Bidding on the auction will run from Wednesday, February 22, 2010 (12:01 a.m. Eastern), through Saturday, March 13, 2010 (11:59 p.m. Eastern). You may post auction offers and make donations now. If you are interested in requesting assistance, there is more information here.
I suspect I may limit myself to merely bidding on items on this one, as I've offered so much for [livejournal.com profile] helptheproject XD

Signal boost for [livejournal.com profile] helptheproject, a fandom auction to help an educational program in Los Angeles. Click through to the profile page for more info on it.

And BECAUSE I AM INSANE, I now have three four offers up. Find them all here.

1. The top 3 bidders will each receive a high-resolution print of their choice mailed to them.

2. I will digitally paint one character in a semi-realistic style.*

3. I will turn your photograph into a digital painting: if the bidding is high enough, I will add historical, cosplay, etc. costuming. SOLD via Buy It Now. If I get time later this month, I may re-list it.

4. In response to a request in the request post, I am offering 2 pounds of coffee beans from a local-to-me micro-roaster, as seen in the post accidentally posted to my LJ and not to the comm. :) (There's a copy on the comm now.)

ETA: There is also now a request post up, in case there's a fic, art, book, fiber art, or whatever thing you've been looking for and haven't found.

* NOTE: If you are on my sadly-procrastinated-upon commission list and get the winning bid, this can count as your commission!

Yo!

[personal profile] rachelmanija works with the Virginia Avenue Project, which mentors Los Angeles teens and kids in theatre and the other arts, tutors them in academics, and partners with them to create and perform original plays.

100% of participating children graduate from high school. 90% go on to college. 85% are the first person in their family to go. Correction! From the Project: "The stats on the auction are outdated - new stats: 100% high school, 95% college and 98% first in the family..."

The centerpiece of their program is in danger, and will not take place this year unless they raise $15,000. We know there's been a recent fandom auction, and lots of you have been asked to give money or volunteered items and services for other causes recently, but if you've got the time and ability, please consider either bidding on or offering items and services at [livejournal.com profile] savetheproject. Bidding is now open, and will close at the end of the month. Details on the comm info page.

And please boost the signal about this! Thank you!

(Now I have to consider what to offer. I doubt I'm up for offering a commission at the moment, but certainly prints...)

ETA: I'm also one of the mods - if the LJ layout doesn't work on your browser, it's my fault and please let me know. :)
