The face of this monkey newly revealed to science reminds me of nothing so much as late Egyptian funerary portraits. The stylized ones with the elongated faces and soulful eyes.

Cocaine Blues (Phryne Fisher #1), by Kerry Greenwood, is currently free in the Amazon US Kindle store!

I discovered the price after reading meganbmoore's review of the Mrs. Bradley Mysteries TV series and being reminded of Greenwood's series. I'd wanted to try reading the series before, but the books weren't available in ebook format at the time and I've grown averse to buying hard-copy books because I fail to finish so many, and they just pile up, and I'm already out of shelf space.* I checked to see if they were available yet, and ... paydirt!

Oh, and the other books in this series appear to be at very low prices, too, at the moment. I'll ahve to read CB first and grab them all if I like it.

This font LIED TO ME! I was in the cooking area of the library and grabbed a couple of books on ice cream that looked interesting, and went back to me desk. Too late, I realized I should have looked inside them first...

Long shot: are any of you Aussies? Is it possible to find a used-but-good copy of the DVD set or Blu-ray of the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries Series 1 there for less than the new copy currently costs, or is it too close to the time it was released to find it for a reasonable price?

Mom has expressed an interest in watching the series, but it's not yet available in the UK or the US on DVD/Blu-ray. I'm hoping to find a somewhat affordable version that we can rip to present her with a Christmas gift of the DVD set plus versions she can load onto her iPad.* (We've purchased PAL-format stuff before and ripped it to watch, so that's no problem!)



* Naturally it'll show up in the US for $35 shortly after we purchase it, I'm sure. But it's a thought.
