Tiny boring poll not crossposted to DW as the polls don't crosspost. :) Mostly, I'm going to be clearing out a decent part of my stash of bento boxes and accessories - not because I'm no longer doing bento, but because after a couple of years of this, I've got definite preferences for the types of boxes and accessories that I use, and thus have a lot of unused stuff hanging out taking up space that I could use for other bento junk.

With the debut of the $1.50 bento box and other accessories at Ichiban Kan USA, eBay is no longer a decent place to dump unused bento stuff, so it's either sell it to you guys for a pittance plus shipping or throw it away. :)

So, just to gauge if it's even going to be worth my taking photos and posting them and going through the hassle of shipping them ... anyone here think they might be interested?

For sale - bento boxes

(And apologies for hard-water stains on them. I fail at drying things right away after I wash them. :D)

The capacity in mL is listed in them, because if you follow traditional bento box packing guidelines, you can assume that 1 mL - 1 calorie, which gives you a good idea if it's too big or too small for you. If you DON'T follow the guidelines, it tends to be too small. :D

The guidelines are to pack it FULL and pack it TIGHT, with 3 parts starch (like rice), 2 parts vegetables and fruit, and 1 part protein. Obviously not the best guidelines for diabetics to follow, but good if you're watching portion size or calories. Most of these will feed a middle-school size child, or a non-athletic woman, if packed correctly. I almost never pack it correcty, so I tend to throw in a piece of fruit or bag of chips or something else in a side container, and eat that as a midafternoon snack.

For sale - bento side containers and sauce containers

The side containers tend to be on the small side, so good for dips, dressing, small amounts of snacks like nuts or M&Ms, that sort of thing. The sauce bottles hold small amounts.

If you don't want to hand-wash the small containers (bottles have to be hand-washed), check our your local Target or other store that carries baby stuff for these little plastic lidded baskets that fit into the dishwasher's top rack and hold small items. They work wonders!

For sale - food cups and dividers

Bento packers use food cups and dividers to separate foods out that might be a little more liquidy, if the bento eater is picky about foods touching and flavors mingling, to make it look pretty, or to take a food that is not to be reheated out of a box before the rest is microwaved.

The cupcake cups can be bought in regular grocery stores here, but I'm putting them up in the hopes that someone's willing to take them off my hands for a buck. :D

The silicone cupcake things are priced higher than other stuff because I still remember how much I paid for them. *ouch* But they're still less than you'd pay in a store, where they'd go from $8 - $12, the last time I checked. I'm getting rid of them because I have discovered that I CAN taste silicone from silicone cookware in foods that are baked or reheated in them, unlike what others say. So off they go! (They do squish reasonably well into bento boxes!)

Tend to be a bit on the short side as (a) msot of them are for kids, and (b) they pack better that way. A couple of them are free for particular bento boxes, since they go with them as a set. :D

4. Assume all items used unless I mention that they're unused.


5. I can't quote shipping until I collect the items you want, put them in a box, and weigh it and find out on the USPS site what it'll be. I ASSUME it'll be less than $10, probably more like $5 for U.S. shipping, but NO GUARANTEES. Let me know if you're not in the U.S. first! (I have no idea what those prices will be like.)


6. I may not get back to you with the price for a day or two. I do have a real job and commissions I need to be working on!


7. I'll be striking out items as they're claimed, but I may be super-behind in that. Someone may have claimed the item(s) you want in comments already, please don't get mad! Corollary: if you decide you don't want something you claimed, let me know ASAP so I can release it for someone else.


8. Payment will be Paypal, unless we work something else out. Pay me after I quote you the price with shipping.


9. I will be doing my best to mail this weekend - if you're outside the US I have to fill out a Customs form, which means I can't use the automatic postage machine and have to talk to a real person, so it may be a few days longer before I can take off work and go to the post office.


10. If you miss out on something, I recommend Ichiban Kan USA (only ships in the US as far as I know). It's basically a Japanese dollar store, with lots of inexpensive bento stuff (and some more expensive stuff, too). You get what you pay for, and $1.50 bento box lids need to be treated extra-carefully so they don't warp or break, but the ones I've got have mostly all stayed in one piece. eBay and Amazon are other places to find nifty bento boxes and accessories, and I Love Obento is an online store I've just found, which carries middle-priced to expensive bento stuff. (I ordered two food cup sets from them yesterday, but they're obviously not here yet, so no report on how they do.)

P.S. This is the bento stuff I'm keeping - one two-tier slightly larger box, three single-layer boxes, one sandwich case (can't be seen), and two smaller square-shaped boxes. Plus the accessories I actually use, and the bags I actually use (in other cabinet). I also have a few food containers I use as both bento containers and food storage in other places. Plus a thermal jar and a smaller thermal bento set for times I need to bring my lunch and don't have access to a microwave. I'm only getting rid of about half my stuff! XD
