BENTO BOX AND ACCESSORY SALE!

Cheap! Really! Really really!

I've separated them out into different posts by category to make things easier:

Bento boxes
Side and sauce containers
Food cups and dividers
Chopsticks, forks, and spoons
Food cutters - all gone!
Carrying bags

RULES OF THE ROAD

  1. Comments on the other posts disabled, so as to keep all comments here.

  2. Comment, letting me know what you want, and I'll quote you a price incuding shipping

  3. First come, first serve, as indicated by the order in which the comments arrive in my LJ inbox. (If there's something you're dying to have, you may want to post it immediately and edit the comment or post new ones for other items.)

  4. Assume all items used unless I mention that they're unused.

  5. I can't quote shipping until I collect the items you want, put them in a box, and weigh it and find out on the USPS site what it'll be. I ASSUME it'll be less than $10, probably more like $5 for U.S. shipping, but NO GUARANTEES. Let me know if you're not in the U.S. first! (I have no idea what those prices will be like.)

  6. I may not get back to you with the price for a day or two. I do have a real job and commissions I need to be working on!

  7. I'll be striking out items as they're claimed, but I may be super-behind in that. Someone may have claimed the item(s) you want in comments already, please don't get mad! Corollary: if you decide you don't want something you claimed, let me know ASAP so I can release it for someone else.

  8. Payment will be Paypal, unless we work something else out. Pay me after I quote you the price with shipping.

  9. I will be doing my best to mail this weekend - if you're outside the US I have to fill out a Customs form, which means I can't use the automatic postage machine and have to talk to a real person, so it may be a few days longer before I can take off work and go to the post office.

  10. If you miss out on something, I recommend Ichiban Kan USA (only ships in the US as far as I know). It's basically a Japanese dollar store, with lots of inexpensive bento stuff (and some more expensive stuff, too). You get what you pay for, and $1.50 bento box lids need to be treated extra-carefully so they don't warp or break, but the ones I've got have mostly all stayed in one piece. eBay and Amazon are other places to find nifty bento boxes and accessories, and I Love Obento is an online store I've just found, which carries middle-priced to expensive bento stuff. (I ordered two food cup sets from them yesterday, but they're obviously not here yet, so no report on how they do.)

P.S. This is the bento stuff I'm keeping - one two-tier slightly larger box, three single-layer boxes, one sandwich case (can't be seen), and two smaller square-shaped boxes. Plus the accessories I actually use, and the bags I actually use (in other cabinet). I also have a few food containers I use as both bento containers and food storage in other places. Plus a thermal jar and a smaller thermal bento set for times I need to bring my lunch and don't have access to a microwave. I'm only getting rid of about half my stuff! XD

It is! And how did you want pymt? check or paypal or some other form? :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Paypal's easiest - I'll let you know the address after I work out teh shipping costs. :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-04-23 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Shipping = $7.52 parcel post + $16 for the stuff = $23.52

And I discovered that the smaller tier of the massive box fits inside the larger and the top actually latches down that way as well, so you could probably take just the one tier if you didn't need both. :D (I discovered it after spending some frantic moments looking for the smaller tier. XD)

Nope! I just need to remember there's a waiting list. XD (In case they don't, I think I bought them at Michael's Crafts - they were on sale in the baking section.)

Got it--so quickly! I can't wait to use 'em. ^_^

[identity profile] movingfinger.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I just realized that the Ichiban-Kan you (and other bento fans) keep talking about is the same as the Ichiban store in San Francisco's Japantown mall, a store which usually has lots of Pocky, for Pocky fans. It is one of those stores that I do not understand how it works, because it is full of cheap things that are all brought from far away.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, that's it! :D I know they get ginormous shipping containers full of stuff that come by sea, because when they first opened the online store they were astonished at how quickly the bento stuff sold out, and were posting updates on the arrival of the next shipment on their blog. :)

[identity profile] movingfinger.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still hard for me to understand. I have perfectly good kitchen things, like a metal strainer, from there which cost a dollar. How can that make money for anyone, anywhere along the line? Capitalism is a mystery.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The actual production costs have to be, like, a penny per item (accounting for markups and profit for every step along the line - manufacturer, distributer, shipper, retailer).

Or are they loss leaders, and the dollar-store companies make their money elsewhere...?

Got it this morning; it'll go out tomorrow! Thanks!

[identity profile] awamiba.livejournal.com 2009-04-23 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll take the little bitty orange 3 tier box, the set of three round lidded boxes, and the madeline molds (the boys would love figuring out what to do with them. frozen peanut butter? who knows. that was their answer.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-04-23 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! :D I'll box 'em up and weigh 'em when I get home from work. :D (And you'll have to let me know what they come up with for the molds! XD)

Paypal should have your money now. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-04-24 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Got it, thanks! Will send it out tomorrow! :D

ETA: Eep! Just noticed - it's pending because it's not a direct Paypal/bank transfer, so I can only accept five of those a year before having to convert that account to a Premium account. I'll cancel it, and if you could send the payment to sfolse@cepheid.org, that'd be great. :D
