Squirrels, cats, Yuuko and stuff

Below this cut, you will find a picture of my cat, and a picture of my progress so far on the Yuuko pic I talked about in a previous post. You will also find some squirrel pics.

No, the squirrel has not been back; I just hadn't taken the last pics off my camera. They were from the last day that the half-a-squirrel was outside my window, before I called the apartment complex and had them pick it up. I shot a few pics of it staring at me suspiciously before it scampered off in a threatening manner.

So I invite you all now to sit back, have a drink to fortify yourself, and stare deeply into the...

BEADY EYES OF EVIL!!!

(which are slightly out of focus because I was shooting through the window screen)

And now my cat, going "Oh, god, she's got that flashy thing again; I'm going to look away and pretend I don't see her." The pink fuzzy thing was knitted and sent my by [livejournal.com profile] sparkylibrarian, and my cat has this bizarre relationship with it: when she feels lonely, or when she's forgotten I'm in the other room, she'll carry it around and mew piteously. The moment you go pet her, she drops it and ignores it totally.

And now the Yuuko. I decided to go for simple, and also to zoom in tight on her because the full-body pic just wasn't working for me. The background is a copyright-free needlework pattern from one of those Dover books. I plan on doing it in marker. Exactly how I will accomplish that, I have no idea whatsoever. Will finish the inking Friday or this weekend.

And in other other news, my TiVo knows me: it captured A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum without me even telling it to! Whee! I had it on tonight as I inked away at Yuuko, and now I shall fall asleep with my head full of "Tragedy tomorrow, comedy tonight!" and "IIIIIIIII am Miles Gloriosus! Cooooooooonqueror of thousands!"

Yeah, I tried to draw her Art Nouveau/Gilded Age, but she insisted on going 20s. :P

I dun trust skwerlz.
Well, not after the mafia pics!

Nice picture! Do you lightbox the design on the tracing paper to sturdier paper?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually Copic's translucent marker paper. :) When I get it done and colored in (if I don't get really pissed off at it and throw it away), I'll mat it with a sturdier piece of white paper behind it.

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
OHhhhh! I should have realized that when you said you were going to be colouring witg marker. Colour? With REAL MEDIA? SO ALIEN TO MEEEE!

The picture's really lovely!

And you've given me "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid" as an earworm ... .

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

And you've now given it back to me...

[identity profile] ebony14.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
And now you both have given it to me. Not that I particularly mind; "A Funny Thing..." is one of my favorite movies of all time. Trivia: In the Broadway musical, Marcus Licchus was played by John Carradine instead of Phil Silvers. Which is one of the biggest "WTF?" moments in the history of drama, right up there with casting David Bowie as Pontius Pilate in "The Last Temptation of Christ." Not that I wish to cast aspersions on John Carradine's ability as an actor, but he's always been more spooky than silly to me.

"If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times: Don't fan the girls while they're wet. But you'll never learn; you'll be a eunuch all your life!" - Marcus Licchus, a Purveyor of the Flesh of Young Women (That's for those of you who don't like pirates.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. Straaange.

The first encounter I ever had with "A Funny Thing..." was my sophomore year of highschool, when I was taking a drama class. The teacher arranged with whatever the A&M student theatre group was for us to go watch a dress rehearsal of it, so I saw it first onstage.

We did a production back in college, when I was still doing stage crew. I remember that the Geminae were cast as one white girl and one African-American girl. They did have strikingly similar faces and builds, and their mirror-image dance was weirdly beautiful.

I have to say that my mind boggles at the idea of John Carradine intoning lines like "and graceful as a grouse!"

I am a parade!

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
AAAAAAGH DON'T SCARE ME LIKE THAT!

Yuuko's going to be beautiful.

pink fuzzy thing

Pink? For me, it shows up too dark to be pink. More like maroon, I tihnk.

And your Yuuko drawing? (a) Wow, so pretty! (b) Damn, I wish I could draw!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
In real life it is a dark pink.

Thanks!
