OK, so it's the proof copy, which is one copy of the book so that I can check it for problems before they commit to the 100-copy (OMG 100 copies! Thank you, pre-order people for ordering enough that we can afford to up the print run!) run of Project Blue Rose.

There is, of course, one problem:



And it's not the cat: I misjudged the placement of the blurb, so it's right up against the edge of the cover. I'm going to ask them: if I send in a revised cover where that's moved over just a tad, can they run the books without running another proof copy, because if they have to do that it's going to take time and I won't meet the A-Kon deadline. If they can't - no matter, I'll just leave it like it is and when rachelmanija and I become Rich and Famous [TM] they can be the hard-to-find, rare messed-up first edition copies of Project Blue Rose. I EXPECT TO SEE EVERY ONE OF YOU PUTTING YOUR SPARE COPIES ON EBAY AND MAKING A FORTUNE! DO NOT DISAPPOINT ME!*

How many copies are being sent to try to sell at A-Kon?

We've had, what, 35-40 copies pre-ordered? I figure I'm going to take 20-30 copies (mind you, I'm being incredibly optimistic there) to the con. I'm also considering a special con-only price

*If* they all sell, that'll leave somewhere between 30-45 copies to use as giveaways, sell online, take to other cons, give to your agent, put in pitch packages, etc.

I flipped through it to check the placement of all the text balloons and make sure none were getting chopped off, and some of the tones have dots that are too big, but there was no way I could judge that before it was printed. So no biggie - the next thing I do, I'll know to use smaller dots, and once I sit down and go through the book and compare it to the actual files, I can make a list of the tones to avoid.

It'll go out to you tomorrow, so it - plus a wee something extra I won't tell you about, hee hee hee hee hee - should hopefully be awaiting you in your mailbox when you return from Arizona.

I went through it and while a lot of the art made me cringe - a sign that I'm improving quickly, yay! - there were also a lot of parts that made me go "Woo!", which I find heartening.

Will you have art hanging in the booth? Print a big copy of the cover art, and hang it above the stack of copies. That should catch the eye.

No booth, just a table, and it's not against a wall or pillar. Maybe one day I'll actually have an easel to put behind the table, but not this year. :D

(I can print a big copy and tape it to the front of the table, though.)

Ack! I need to go to Office Depot *tonight* and pick up paper for the bookplates, so I can print and sign them and send them to you!

... er, if my RSI gets any worse tonight, I may not actually sign them now, but send them to you to sign and send back to me. Typing at work really wasn't much fun.

There is no way in hell I will make change for less than a dollar at a con. I do not have a cash register, or even a moneybox, and I have to actually carry the money and my merchandise back and forth from the Komik Market, and that's heavy and a serious hassle all around.
