Poor Sora!

telophase: (cat - Sora smug in box)
Life is so hard when you're a cat. Sora has three distinct Crazy Time periods per day that last 15-30 minutes each, in which he's energetic and skittish and unable to settle down: one in the morning as we're getting up and feeding the cats*, one as I get home from work, and one about 10 PM.

Last night, the 10 PM Crazy Time included sitting on the arm of the couch and chasing his tail. Which was entertaining in and of itself, as he kept almost falling off, then grabbing into the couch with all his claws. But then he managed to catch his tail and sink a claw into it. This obviously hurt! And he didn't like that! So he hissed at his own tail! And then it was stuck, and it kept hurting, and he couldn't get his claw out, so he hissed again!

He was not impressed that I was laughing at him. Turnabout is fair play, after all, and he's managed to scratch me plenty of times.**

Nefer remained impassive throughout it all. She's mostly unflappable and is such a contrast to Sora, who jumps at every little thing. Occasionally Sora will start or jump at something real or imagined, and then Nefer will get spooked because obviously Sora is spooked so there must be something to be spooked about, and then Sora will stay spooked because Nefer is spooked and Nefer never gets spooked, so there must be something to be spooked about! And that just goes on until we distract them.

* Note that we always overfill the bowls, so he's not driving us nuts because he's hungry, but because we haven't fulfilled The Ritual! The Ritual is Important! It is essential! The world will come to an end if we haven't fulfilled The Ritual! Such that if [livejournal.com profile] myrialux gets up first and decides not to pour food into the bowls in order to keep things quiet and not disturb me, then Sora will annoy the ever-loving shit out of me until I get up and enact The Ritual of putting food into the never-empty bowls.

** Mostly when kneading me and purring, I'll admit.

...perhaps you can help me where a quick Google hasn't. Last night, at the party for the end of my piano class, one of the students brought some cookies that she'd made. She's Romanian, and said they were Romanian, but she's seen variants from Greece and other Eastern European countries.

The dough was rolled into logs and sliced. I do not know if they're non-bake refrigerator cookies or if they were baked at all - they are soft. Here is a photo of the ones I took home.

She said they contained: animal crackers, walnuts, cocoa, rum, margarine (although you could use butter), and sugar. Perhaps she mentioned a few more ingredients, but I don't remember.

So. Look familiar to anyone? Recipe? Or even just a name for them?

ETA; Thanks to commenters, it seems this is a variant of sweet salamy/salami. Posting a few quick links to similar recipes under the cut so I can find them later (I haven't found one recipe that includes everything she mentioned, as the closest ones leave the nuts out, but I think I could fake it well enough).
