Web site test, please!
Jan. 7th, 2010 03:20 pmI'm putting some code into the library website that should automagically detect most, if not all, mobile devices and send them to a mobile-enabled version*, and should NOT do anything if you're not on a mobile browser.
So! I need you guys with mobile devices, as well as you guys *without* mobile devices to go to:
http://library.tcu.edu/default_test.asp
and tell me if it behaves as you'd expect. There's a link on that page that says "I prefer the regular library web site. (Click on the QR code in the footer for the mobile site.)" which should send you back to the regular site and drop a cookie that keeps your mobile device from returning to the mobile site unless you click the QR code at the bottom (the square with the black-and-white random-noise-looking pattern).** Tell me if it seems to be working OK when going back and forth.
ETA: I especially need to know from non-mobile users if you get automagically shunted to the mobile site from any of the browsers you use when accessing the above URL. :)
ETA2: IE 6 on Windows will give you a login screen twice. It's a bug that we're working on that has nothing to do with the mobile device. And is highly frustrating! YAY FIXED!
It would help if you could tell me your platform, OS, browser, and browser version when reporting results. :)

*Yeah, on iPhone at least, the only thing I have to test on, the mobile page doesn't wrap as you zoom in. This is a problem I will be fixing after I get this part taken care of. Fixed!
** I know it's probably too small to read with your QR code reader. That's another issue to tackle later. If you don't know what a QR code is, it's a 2-D bar code that encodes info, in this case the library URL.
