I recently added whereof one can speak to my RSS aggregator. Katherine is an Irish blogger who talks about comics. Mostly superheroes, from the ones I've read, but she's also got some entertaining posts on vintage British girls' comics, one with a digression on Virtuous Orphans, and one focusing on the Bunty Annual 1978.

And one of my other current favorite blog reads is Tundra Medicine Dreams, by a physician assistant who lives in Alaska (and for those of you who will click on anything I post that's cute, there are sled dog puppies in her most recent post).

I've been sitting on this news for a while, until the site went live. Tokyopop.com's new website went live today, and you are now reading the words of the weekly manga columnist.

You may touch me.*

Anyway, I'd like to thank the approximately 413679316 people who forwarded me a copy of the announcement; I doubt I'd have geared up to send in an app if I hadn't gotten that many copies forwarded. XD

And now my "What sort of things should I write about?" post of a couple of weeks back makes much more sense now, doesn't it?

* But not in an inappropriate manner.

[livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks's housemate Ada Palmer (Thrud) is the new Fashion/Cosplay columnist for Tokyopop.com, and [livejournal.com profile] chrisarrant is the People columnist. COngratulations to both! XD

...and I mean that in the best possible way, actually. I'm sure that a lot of you are familiar with the Takarazuka theatre troupe, which I ran across a few years ago. For those of you who aren't, it's an all-female theatre troupe that's been around for decades - coming up on almost a century now. They have a school-type thing where young women go to be trained in theatre arts, and each member specializes in either male or female roles. You can learn a little bit more about them at the link above, which is to their English site, or at the Wikipedia site.

You cna see where this comes in handy for dramatizing anime. [livejournal.com profile] marith found a clip from the Takarazuka production of Revolutionary Girl Utena on YouTube. That's the opening number. If you look to the right, you'll see a few other clips linked - the Act 2 one stars the Student Council, where only Miki manages to be completely convincing in drag. :D

She also links to a clip from Guys and Dolls.

Searching on Takarazuka links to several more clips from various productions, including Phantom (not the Andrew Lloyd Webber version; the other touring version), a revue called Dream Kingdom, and more Guys and Dolls.

ETA: And a clip from their production of Rose of Versailles.
