telophase: (L - not wearing pants)
Now that I've been through the doujinshi I bought at Yaoi-Con, it's time to sell the ones I don't want. :D So of course I'm posting it on a day when nobody's checking their LJ. XD I'll bump the post later.

Anyway, there's 3 I'm listing now. I might put a couple more up later. I keep wavering on some of the others - I think sure, I'll put 'em up, and then I spot something in the art that I want to study and ... *sigh* I think I may be the only person who doesnt' give a damn about the story; I'm addicted to good linework. :/

Accomplished today:

Roast prepared and put into crockpot.
Doujinshi scanned and posted
Pumpkin pies made and put into oven*
Leftover eggs hard-boiled
Kitchen cleaned.
Plans laid for cooking Spring Vegetable Ragout, despite it not being spring**

Not accomplished today (so far):

Art.

*aarg* At least I won't have to cook for a week after this.

* Lactose-free pumpkin pie recipe: follow the directions on the can of pumpkin, but increase the eggs to 3 and use lactose-free whole milk instead of the evaporated milk. Cook as normal. Maybe a gourmet could tell the difference between that and regular pumpkin pie, but the majority can't.

Another version, totally dairy-free: follow directions on back of can, substituting one package of the softest tofu you can find, beat smooth with a blender/food processor type thing, for the evaporated milk. Cook as normal.

** Throw off the tyranny of the seasons!***

*** Are you going to ask for the recipe again? )

Mmmm.

Despite refusing to travel for the holidays and thus spending Thanksgiving in a blessedly relative-free zone* I have managed to pig out in approved Thanksgiving fashion. Leftover potato-leek stew, sausage biscuits, vegetable ragout, hard-boiled eggs, a pot roast due to come out of the crockpot in an hour or two, and, just now, two pieces of pumpkin pie, along with gnawing on a bar of dark chocolate ehre and there.

Not all at once, of course. Spread out over the day. I miss turkey not at all, although dressing drowned in giblet gravy sounds like it would be real good right about now.

May have third piece of pumpkin pie. Refuse to feel guilty about food consumed on holidays or when out with friends - made that decision after seeing aunt and cousin whinging on about calories and food one holiday, thus ruining it for everyone within earshot. Time enough for that every other day of the year.

Pronoun use vanihsing again. Feel almost like writing telegram STOP

* I love my family. Just not all at once. Being trapped in a house with a large number of people stresses me out, drives me up the wall, and results in [livejournal.com profile] telophase not, actually, having a good time. Drinking enough wine to maintain a good level of tipsiness dulls the noise, but is still only second-best to visiting a very small number of family at one time.

The pot roast I'm doing now is almost done - about 15 more minutes. I've just tasted it and thrown the last ingredients in, and I think it's gonna be a hit.

3.5 lb roast - I think it was a rump roast.
1 onion, chooped
1/2 c sugar (should ahve been brown sugar, but I don't have any)
1/3 c soy sauce
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar*
2 bay leaves
3 garlic cloves, chopped up small (theyw ere huge cloves. But I love garlic.)
1 tsp grated fresh ginger (probably ended up being 2 tsp - I got carried away grating and didn't bother to measure)
1 c julienned carrots, matchstick size (Hah. I used baby carrots and didn't bother cutting them up.)
2 c sliced button mushrooms (Sliced? Sliced? You're getting quartered and liking it!)
(2-3 cups fresh spinach leaves - Er, no. Hate the stuff with a fiery passion, refused to use at all)
2 Tb conrstarch (Forgot to get. Used substituion)

Normally, one would put the prissy julienned carrots on the top of the roast near the end of cooking. Feh. I got better things to do than julienne carrots. I poured a small bag of baby carrots directly into the crockpot to start with. Put beef on top. Put onion on top of beef. Combine sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, pour over beef. Add bay leaves, garlic, and ginger. Cover, cook on HIgh for 6-7 hours.

I checked at 6, and the meat was fork-tender and tasted delicious.

CHop mushrooms, put on top of beef, cook on high 20 minutes. Normally one would then add the conrstarch and cook 10 minutes more to thicken, but I realized at this point I didn't have cornstarch. So I followe dthe advice from another crockpot book and beat together equal amounts softened (in teh microwave XD) butter and flour, then stirred it into the juice. Should taste better than cornstarch anyway, because. BUTTER. Probably overdid it - I did 4 Tb butter and 4 Tb flour, and I think there's closer to 2-3 cups of liquid in there, but if it's too thick I'll ... add water, or wine, or hard cider, or something. They're all good options.

It's now got 15 minutes to cook.

* The miracle ingredient. Makes almost everything better.

ETA: Mmmm. Meat. Meat and BUTTER. Best damn pot roast I've had in a long time.

O.o

I've got this weird little toy - don't know what it's called. It's a ball made of some sort of translucent stretchy stuff, tinted red, with a long tail made of the same stuff with a loop on the end you can use to put on your finger and do yo-yo type stuff with it. Inside the ball, floating in water or something, is a smaller plastic ball with a red flashy thing inside it. The red flashy thing flashes red when you hit it with a certain degree of force. It sits on a bookshelf on the other side of the room.

It's been flashing red randomly for a few days now, without being hit, touched, or disturbed in any way whatsoever. I assume it's due to the internal battery dying, but it's still odd and a bit creepy to see it go off at random times.
