telophase: (goku - reading)
This request is from [livejournal.com profile] puppleball, a friend of mine who is a teacher at a middle school in Garlands (part of the Dallas metroplex):
I can't post to livejournal right now (plus you have a larger friends list than I do) since the school blocks it. Would you mind posting up a request for me? Several students have approached me about starting an anime/manga club. I'm trying to get them to tell me what they want to do exactly, the goals of the club, and while they are being a bit dodgy, one of the main goals is just being able to get together and draw manga. Could you post a request for book/material donations for me? The how to draw manga books or anything that might be useful to these kids. The club will be either a before or after school club opened to any student (6-8 grade). I'm also in search of things to do with the kids during this time. Structured tasks to help them with thier drawing, added with anime viewing. The viewings I need recommendations for. Remember kid appropriate 11-14 year olds. People can email me at my puppleball [at] comcast [dot] net address (using my school address will catch things in the filter) and mail anything up to the school:

A very quick moment to post a meme, then I HAVE to FINISH THIS STUPID DATABASE BY 4:00!!

I am totally all about this as an epitaph )
telophase: (L - canceling internet // the_pixelized)
OK, I'm posting again, BUT I GOT THE DATABASE CONSTRUCTED too bad it won't talk to the script, though.

[ edit: Just realized this sounds like the survey the graphic leads to is what I was working on. Nope. I took a break from the database above, which is (heh) a survey, but it has to do with the librari I work at, to do the survey below and post the graphic. ]

BACK TO WORK.

Memeage!

telophase: (Near - dork)
Just finished reading a book and need time to sit and process, so I'm doing stupid Internet quizzes, including that trick-or-treating one.

In which I came out slightly better than last year )

And ....

LOOK AT MY CUTENESS, YE MIGHTY, AND PH33R!! )
telophase: (Dr. Morpheus - word to your mother)
Got [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's memoir All the Fishes Come Home to Roost from Amazon.com today (I had a Grand Plan to pre-order it from Borders and spike the sales a bit there, but then Mom phoned and said she was ordering a copy and would I like her to order a copy for me while she was at it, and ... well, the hell with her sales, free book XD)

And I, uh, just rocketed through it in two hours. Yes, [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, months and months of your toil, all finished in TWO HOURS! XD

It's a good thing that I read it that fast, actually - the faster I go, the more I'm engaged in it. I'll have to reread it to get more details - right now it's mostly a blur of bizarre people and horrific abuse. Er, for the, like, three people on my friendslist who don't know who [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija is, this book is a memoir of her growing-up years on an ashram in India - her parents wigged out and moved to India when she was seven - and it's blackly funny, despite (and in some cases because of) the horrific bits. Go to the link and read more about it. :)

Random factlet - Steven Brust has just got hisself a Livejournal - [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust

And speaking of [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija again, she recently posted an essay all about first lines in books and stories and how important they are, which is why I immediately thought of her when I picked up another of the books I checked out from the library and the first line was:

The woods were silent, other than the screaming.

And in other news, the History International channel is starting to run a British reality series about people trying to live as if they were in the Iron Age, in a re-created Iron Age settlement, and ... dude! I've been to that one! We went to it on a field trip in my Celtic World class when I was doing a semester abroad in Wales, at Trinity College in Carmarthen. Nifty!

Those are all the random things on my brain right now and I must GO TO SLEEP because I am TIRED.
