Just a random thought stemming from discussions elsewhere, when I mentioned that there's a lot of librarian-type people on my LJ: who of you are librarians? (Or library techs, or MLIS students, etc.)
I've got my MLS, and I worked in libraries as a reference librarian, manager of reference services, and law library director for 12 years. Now, though, I'm a full time writer.
When I was growing up, my parents were actually BOTH librarians. My mother was the library tech at the high school I went to, and my father is still a reference librarian with the Pierce County Library System.
So, yeah - I've been working in libraries since I was about 10. :P
I've worked myself in several college libraries, but never in the public system - the system here in town is pretty much soaked in nepotism, and it's impossible to get work for them. But I worked in the library at my last college as an Interlibrary Loan assistant, and I even worked for the state for a while, creating and maintaining a small internal cataloguing system for a little department library.
Right now, I'm finishing up some pre-reqs for my teaching degree at the local community college, and I managed to snatch up a pretty well coveted library page job there. It's my favorite library so far. :)
I did a lot of research into getting an MLIS and was *THIS* close, but decided to do MATESOL instead. (Not entirely sure whether that was the right decision.) My best friend since junior high is a librarian in Wichita Falls, TX, though.

Well, I have my MLIS, but I'm still doing the library assistant thing because that's how the market is.
