This morning [personal profile] myrialux, my mother, my mother’s friend, and I all went to Lisbon for an hour!

We booked a live virtual tour via Tours By Locals, and at 11 AM our time, 5 PM Lisbon time, met Marta, our guide, online. She walked around Lisbon, talking about the city, its history and culture, showing us architecture, murals, and various views.

There were a few technical problems—mostly wind (Lisbon, on the sea, always has a breeze) and once the connection dropped for a few seconds, but nothing we didn’t expect. (I had to text my mom to mute her mic at one point, though, XD) And D.Va knocked our webcam over at one point.

But overall it was really cool—live-streaming across the Atlantic! I love living in the future—and I expect we’ll be booking more virtual tours. I think some of the tours are livestreams like this, and others are recorded with live commentary by the guide. We weren’t sure which we were getting, but would have been happy either way. And the silver lining of the pandemic cloud is that we got to see Lisbon in the summer with very few tourists—she pointed the camera out over the bay at one point and said we’d normally not be able to see the water from that particular vantage point because of the cruise ships docked there!

And if any of you wants to do a virtual tour but can’t swing the full cost, drop me a line. If it’s something [personal profile] myrialux and I want to see and we can work out the schedule, we might could split the cost. It seems to work that each tour has up to [X] number of devices—we had 3 devices and 4 people—for the same cost.

The way we settled on Lisbon was that I sent Mom the page of virtual tours. She picked several she was interested in, [personal profile] myrialux and I narrowed it down to 2, and then she picked Lisbon because she’d been there once, and remembered it being beautiful. That worked out. :)
