PANIC AVERTED

The proof copy of Spindrift arrived today, and with a rush on the order plus 2nd day air shipping direct to the hotel to boot (the extra cost of which added up to about the amount that we got off as a special in the setup fees), we'll have 140 copies of the book at the con! Why not 150? Because 140 will fit in one box and the extra shipping for 10 more books was prohibitive. :)

Even the cat is impressed!

How's it look? How's it look? How's it look?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks good! :D I went for the off-white paper instead of the pure white that I had Project BLue Rose done in, and it looks better - suite the inks & tones better, and the blacks aren't as splotchy. Whee!

The toning looks good - htere's no panels that jump out at me as ARBITRARY USE OF TONE TO FILL SPACE like there are in PBR. We done good!

[identity profile] vom-marlowe.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! That's wonderful!!! I'm so excited! I hope you guys just sell tons and tons and tons and it goes into multiple printings and then is picked up by Tpop.

[identity profile] rayechu.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, the cover looks really good. I'm very impressed!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
THanks! It looks even better in real life! XD (The colors are more saturated)

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
i hope it sells well ;_;

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
THanks! THe pre-orders have so far covered about half the printing cost, and we shuld sell them quite well at A-Kon. :) So at the very very least, we'll have paid for the printing. XD

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
if i wasn't saving up like mad for otakon i woulda ordered one already. ALAS.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
If it sells anything like PBR did, there'll be a second edition before too long. :D

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
::shrieks and runs in circles::

When is the con? And how soon after the con will you be recovered enough to ship pre-orders?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
June 1-3. I'm hoping to be packing and labeling them after work during the week after the con, to take to the post office Saturday morning to ship.

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
WOOHOO!

[identity profile] darkelf105.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it looks so nice. The cat is just so much set dressing. I need to get paid so I can order a copy.....

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
XD Thanks!

Just went & pre-ordered mine!!!

(Isn't it amazing how cats read with their butts? Our beloved late Mama Cat was a great devotee of the Washington Post, especially ... .)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, they ahve special talents. XD (Mine shreds paper, actually - any sort she can get her paws on.)

[identity profile] emtigereyes.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Preeeeeeeeety.

You are making it very hard for me to fight the urge to acquire Painter. It just looks like too much fun, in that tedious kind of way (my kind of art!) ^^

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've owned it, and Paitner 7, for a total of about five years now, and have managed to get used to the oil brushes and the blenders. Nothing else. It's not a user-friendly progtam, but you can get really neat stuff from it once you beat it into submission.

[identity profile] dremiel.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks fabulous but that cat is clearly preoccupied with it's mission; watching for the squirrel mafia.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They can come from any direction!

And it's presumably itchy work.

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
W00t! Congratulations!
So that company was pretty good then?
I still haven't gotten a proof from Comixpress.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. There were two problems wiht the cover, one last week and one Tuesday, and I was cranky enough to shoot them an email asking why the hell the second problem wasn't caught last week also, because it had to do with vertical logo placement, which wasn't affected one bit by the width of the cover, which was the previous one. And the CSR said she couldn't ask last week's tech because she was on vacation until next week, but that she would.

So - they worked on the proof and got it to me in a little over a week. They *may* have gotten the full order to me in time for the con, but the rush order and expedited shipping was worth it to get it within a week.

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
A week?! That's not half shabby!
I'm going to have to keep those guys in mind!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If I were you I'd get the temptation to fire Comixpress and go with someone else, if you haven't already paid them money or signed a contract. :)

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty tempted yeah, we did pay them thirty-ish dollars for a proof but that was back in March and the proof still hasn't arrived.

The place you used was rather strict about pr0n? I could probably edit out the dildo...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
The only thing in their literature regarding content that I found is the statement that they don't edit for content. You could email them and ask to make sure. :)

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
w00t! I think I will!
Thank you!

[identity profile] anderson-t.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I got a proof in February, and ordered in February...I have no book from Comixpress.

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's horrible!
Have you heard anything at all why they are so behind? If there is that much of a delay/queue they should stop taking new orders until they've cleared their backlog.

*strikes them off the list*

[identity profile] anderson-t.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I was extremely disappointed. It wasn't even an adult comic, it was relatively safe, and they proof looked great. I reordered. Emailed. Emailed about the re-order. Now it's June.

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Have they at least replied to your emails? It took almost three weeks for them to reply to my query last time and nothing since.

Really not the way they should be doing business. Not with how small a world it is for self-publishing.

[identity profile] anderson-t.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, never replied to my emails. 0_0

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
>=O
So rude of them.

[identity profile] cicer.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Eee, so exciting! I wish I had some disposible income right now. Sadly, I've already spent my tax-refund check on other goodies. Oh well. I catch you in the second edition, which I expect will be coming up soon. :D Congrats, and good luck with con sales!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Thanks!

[identity profile] homasse.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, pretty! And the cat looks so impressed, oh my yes. XD

Bring me one when you come to Japan and I can pay you in yen! Win win all around!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, she didn't pee on it or try to shred it, so I count that as a positive. XD

[identity profile] bitpig.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I still don't get the whole guy-on-guy thing, but the book looks GREAT!

A cat is fine too.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
You'll be interested to hear that the next thing we're vaguely starting to think of doing isn't boys' love, because I'm tired of drawing guys and want to draw some girls. :) And it's going to be fairly tame, because my mother keeps plaintively asking, each time I start another project like this, "Is this something I can tell your grandparents about?" XD

And thanks! (I highly recommend Lightning Source, which has been the most professional of every single printer I've dealt with so far.)

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit I gotta reserve mine don't I. Hawt.
