What have I been up to recently?

Mostly being somewhat sick? Sporadic GI thing off and on for a week that also included exhaustion, probably made worse by dehydration. Was ill Sunday a week ago, almost passed out in the shower Monday, I assume due to dehydration and overheating. Called off work Monday. Went in Tuesday and Wednesday, but Wednesday afternoon the GI thing came back, and I called off Thursday and then Friday because I felt so sluggish.

Did a quick trip to another city to check out a desk and office chair showroom, since my current setup was absolutely not working. I am too short for the desk--standard height is 30" nowadays it seems--and so I have to set my chair extra-high, and that meant I was sort-of sliding forward in the chair even with a footrest and the seat was pressing against the back of my thighs and contributing to my ankles swelling and and and...... so anyway, the setup was Not Working. Especially because everything that was wrong necessitated adding Yet Another Thing to fix and it was getting too damn complicated and was still unpleasant to sit and work at.

We now have a sit-stand desk that will go from 25" to 40-odd with a lot of accessories, many of which were free and others we paid for, in various boxes that arrived this morning. And a Very Nice Chair that will arrive in August.

We also did a click-and-pick-up order from IKEA for a set of shelves to replace the right-hand arm of the desk that held the printer and the cats, and put it together, somehow remaining married in the process. The instructions were wrong. That never happens with IKEA stuff in our experience--sometimes confusing, yes, sometimes misunderstood, yes. But they were just flat-out wrong.

If you are looking at the 33" wide shelving unit in the Bror system, talk to me first! You can put it together, just not in the order the instructions say, using a slightly different technique to install the bracing, and ideally with fewer shelves than their online planner allows you to use.

Anyway. I'd also been having sleep problems and decided that my troubles with falling and staying asleep at night if I wasn't using melatonin, although easily falling asleep during the day, were probably due to not having exercised thanks to exhaustion. I'd gotten on the treadmill on Tuesday or Wednesday and quit after 5 minutes.

So yesterday's Thing I Must Accomplish was exercise. And I did it, which I think means I'm getting better. It was much reduced in intensity than I normally do. For context, I'm now squatting with a 20 pound kettlebell, doing deadlifts and overhead presses with a baby-weight bar (12 pounds instead of 45) and 10 pounds of weight, and doing rows and chest presses with 10-12 pound dumbbells. That wipes me out. What I ended up doing yesterday was bodyweight squats, overhead presses with a cheap plastic bar from some random equipment we had that weighs about 2 pounds, chest presses with 5 pound dumbbells and suitcase deadlifts with 5 pound dumbbells. And that wiped me out enough that when I showered, [personal profile] myrialux hung out in the bedroom in case I felt like passing out. (I didn't, but I also kept the temps lukewarm and showered as fast as possible.) And I'm still tired this morning, but at least I got to sleep and stayed asleep. Although I can tell I needed more--it was Very Very Hard to wake up this morning.

Anyway! [personal profile] myrialux commissioned a painting of Burn and Calli from Deadfall/Deadwater from [personal profile] yhlee for me as a surprise! :D Go see it here on his DW.
