holy wow...

I've bought a number of things for DAZ in the past months, more than I've had time to play with. The DAZ store has good sales, and since Thanksgiving has been having some especially good ones that change daily. At any rate, I don't remember exactly when I bought this plugin, but I just started playing with it today and HOLY SHIT...

THIS IS AN ENTIRELY GENERATED SCENE.

The plugin is UltraScenery and you fuss with the beginning stats by moving sliders around to generate noise that produces the landscape shape, and then choose a few things such as how dense you want woodlands (if you even want woodlands) and whether you want a stream in it. I can control a lot about the water, too: color, clarity, ripple strength, etc. Then you let it rip.

I am quite pleased so far. Right now the only tree I can generate is aspens, because you need to buy more content for the plugin if you want other species, and it has a tendency for those white patches to be showing at the bottom of the trunks (coverable in Photoshop well enough). If you start looking at the grass, the patterns in it look generated (but I also turned off a couple of other grass options that might disguise it). I had to turn off aspen seedlings because the camera kept getting obscured by them. XD

It's resource-intensive enough that I can't use the Iray viewport, which basically renders a quick version of the scene, without crashing DAZ, so I can only manipulate the scene in wireframe, but a quick-n-dirty render is fast enough on my machine.

Anyway: well worth whatever I paid for it, which won't have been the full price. XD

edit: Just to show you, this is what I see when I'm moving the camera around the scene. The white rectangle is the bit that's currently getting rendered (a little farther along and facing the left of the scene above, because I wanted to see where the stream went; apparently it goes to a lake).

Lovely piece. I confess I had a suspicious reaction, but it was "some developer put down pebbles in concrete to fight erosion" not "this isn't real grass and water."

Then please get a good night's sleep. It can wait for Boxing Day. :)

Merry Christmas!
