Things Toby says while playing FFVII

We’re in a part where the main party is going through an office building at night. There’s a cafeteria and of course Toby sends Cloud running through the chairs.

“Fuck yo’ cafeteria! Shit strewn everywhere! This can only be the work of AVALANCHE!”

[AVALANCHE is the eco-terrorist group the main characters are in, which fights against Shinra]

“Stealing from the Shinra pension fund!”

Also there are escalators in the building and Toby’s taking every one of them, ignoring the stairs next to them. I wonder how many players do
that...?

We have established the game won’t let you go down the up escalator, but that if you don’t move Cloud at the top of the escalator it usually delivers the other two characters right into you in an entertaining manner.

Toby has now opted to take the party up 59 floors of stairs instead of taking the elevator. One of the party is not happy and he and Cloud are arguing as they climb.

Ha! The characters are slowing down the higher they go!

IIRC, in the original game there is a gag with the characters staring up 59 floors of stairs with dread, before noticing the elevator. I am delighted that taking the stairs was made an option in the remake! :-D

(I assume you are playing the remake; it's been literally decades since I played VII but I'm fairly certain it didn't have physics-enabled cafeteria chairs)

Haha! Yeah, we’re playing the remake (Game One of the remake!). If you do take the stairs you get treated to some entertaining party banter.

Even though this isn’t the full FFVII game, we’re both pretty happy in that it feels like a full game. They’ve added side quests and fleshed out the Avalanche characters (except for Wedge, who is mostly a walking fat joke. We’ve counted 11 so far), and Toby’s got 40 hours of play in, at chapter 16 of, I think, an 18-chapter game.

I took the stairs in the original game because Shinra HQ had been built up in the story as such a dangerous place, and was astounded (then bored, then sort of delighted) that you do indeed have to navigate up 59 full flights. There was banter that time too, though I only remember people being mad at Cloud for taking the stairs. And they slowed down then, too XD
