Edit: FOUND IT. A rogue plugin. BAH.

If anyone here has Wordpress experience and wants to help me troubleshoot a problem,* PLEASE VOLUNTEER.

At the moment, for some reason the menu system on the ConDFW site is b0rked and I cannot add new pages to the menu. Which means that the Costume Contest page is not linked anywhere on the site as of yet. I can do a temporary fix and put an update about the contest on the home page, but that's not going to help anyone once the update ages off the home page. I am afraid that it might be the new Wordpress update that I just did, and I really do not have time to try to fix this: I've got the short story contest and program book to worry about at the moment. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH

I can give you admin access to the site. THANK YOU to anyone who volunteers to help (I can give you free admission to the con if you're thinking of coming, or something off your Amazon wishlist or the like in recompense!)

* i.e., fix it for me.

EDIT: Oh, great, it's not just the menus. An internal search, when I'm linking something internally, hangs in precisely the same manner. ARGH. Possibly interaction between the theme and the new update. ARGH ARGH ARGH

I may be able to take a look at it tomorrow, if you like, but,

1) Did you check the plugins page to make sure everything was compatible with the update? The properly-maintained ones will tell you if they're not, and may already have a fix out which you can install. That's the #1 thing that causes this sort of problem for me.

2) Are you getting any error messages when you make changes to pages or make posts, particularly involving permissions? If so, then if you haven't yet, you may just need to SSH in and make sure group is set to "web" for everything in the WP directories. That's the #2 problem I have, because I always forget that this needs to be redone after every update.

3) The problem you're describing's basically: you hit "add new page," make the new page, and it doesn't show up on the across-plus-dropdown menu right under where the date appears in the logo, right?

Yippee? Hope you can get it replaced properly, if it's something you need!

At least you didn't find out it had stopped working months later when you urgently needed a backup, which is usually when you realize the backup utility's broken. It's a Christmas miracle.

Almost certainly a plugin problem; the best thing to do is deactivate them one by one and try adding to the menu in between.

I accidentally caused this bug with one of my plugins once, because one of my security checks was not quite specific enough.

THANK YOU. That was it; a rogue plugin.

(On a TOTALLY UNRELATED OF COURSE note, do you have a recommendation for a plugin that makes backups and saves them to places and/or emails them to you? The rogue plugin handily saved to Dropbox as well as to a directory so I always had an offsite backup with no effort on my part.)

I use WP DB Backup, which is old and might not have been updated in a while, and WP DB Migrate Pro, which costs dollars.

Thanks! I'll check into those tomorrow, after I've slept. :D
