Turns out Maru is not actually a cat. He's some kind of land-based hermit crab.

Toby now works on campus, in a different department, and they threw a cookout in his honor today. That was great.

What wasn't so great is that I misjudged my timing and started walking back to my own building just as the city's weekly test of the tornado sirens started. There's a siren on campus, about a block from where I have to walk. The test lasts at least 10 minutes, the time it took me to walk.
