I woke up at 3:45 and couldn't get back to sleep. At 4:30 I gave up and got up, and went to poke around on the intertubes. I realize shortly thereafter that oh yeah, there's supposed to be this meteor shower happening and decide to go outside, knowing full well that it's probably too light to see anything, given how close we are to the city, but if I don't go I'll kick myself for not trying.

So I go poke Toby awake, which is a necessary thing because if he hears the door in the middle of the night his brain will automatically think "Home invasion!" and freak out, and inform him what I"m doing. Turns out that there's too much cloud cover to see much of anything, although I was able to use the Slow Shutter app to get a pretty, albeit blurry, image of the moon behind clouds over the houses on the other side of the street. Cut for pic )

Also, the birds that roost in our trees are pretty damn loud at 4:45 in the morning! And then the new neighbor's dog woke up and thought that someone in its neighbor's yard at this time of the morning was worth telling someone about and started barking, so I thought it best to go inside.

After I come back in I realize I'm hungry, and as I'm standing in the kitchen in the dim glow of the under-cabinet lighting peeling a hard-boiled egg from the fridge, Toby stumbles in and asks if I saw anything. I say no. And then, as he's standing there leaning on the counter, he says:

"I've had a disturbing thought and I don't know how to tell you."

Oh no! What could this be? I get worried, and move closer to him, ready to deploy the "Oh, honey, we can get through this together" along with a hug.

He continues, "When I was taking the garbage cans in, I saw a bee go into one of the holes in the masonry that the previous owners used to hang all their shit up."

Oh, Toby, you and I have very different definitions of the word "disturbing" at 5 o'clock in the morning. :D (My opinion is that the bee was most likely just investigating the hole, and that we probably do not have a hive in our walls, as we'd be seeing a lot more bees at the front of the house, but we can investigate in the morning and call an exterminator if need be.)

And now I suppose I shall go back to bed and see if sleep is going to happen or if I'm just going to have to take a nap sometime later today.
