...but posting [personal profile] rachelmanija's book last night reminded me. [personal profile] yhlee also has a collection of short stories out: Conservation of Shadows.

Anthologies are popping up all over. Must be spring!

In response to the West, Texas chemical explosion, Obama said, in part, "West is a town that many Texans hold near and dear to their hearts [...]." And for most of my friends, that would be because of the Czech Stop, which is where you stop on road trips up and down I-35 to get kolaches.* (The photo a little way down this BBC page that shows the mushroom cloud is taken from the parking lot of the Czech Stop.)

(P.S. It's not "near Waco." It's twenty miles from Waco, which is "near" only by Texas and Alaska standards.)

* If you're on a road trip up and down I-45, you stop at Woody's Smokehouse in Centerville for BBQ and jerky.

14 perfectly timed animal photos.

And because I've been watching a video lecture on photography by the guy who shot this fantastic perfectly-timed photo of a bear catching a salmon, I know that each and every one of those photos is probably the result of many, many hours sitting and shooting photos of the animals in question. (Joel Sartore, the photographer I linked to, says, IIRC, that he estimates he took about a thousand photos the day he got that one.)
