So I've been following Tom & Lorenzo* for a while and I just really have to laugh at the pseudo-fierce facial expressions on the runway models in this recent Armani collection they posted. I feel I should point out to those who don't get runway shows - it's supposed to be weird and over-the-top. The actual clothing that's sold in stores is lined, cut differently, and not so outré; in short, the runway collection is only reminiscent of what they're actually selling, bar a few actors and attention-seekers who'll get the pieces as they went down the runway. Although there's a few pieces in this collection that are wearable as-is.

BTW - [livejournal.com profile] maxineofarc: would you say the guy on the right in this picture is reminiscent of your character that you wanted me to paint lo these many years ago that I KEEP FORGETTING ABOUT BECAUSE I AM A BAD PERSON?

We are so suburban now...

We have a grill. :) We have no outdoor furniture, so we have to stand awkwardly around it or sit on the deck as we grill stuff, but hey! We have a grill!

First meal, cooked last night, was a Cuban steak recipe - marinate in an adobo made of garlic, salt, pepper, lime juice, and cumin. Reserve half the adobo before putting it on the meat and baste the steak with it after you turn it over. Also an Asian-style potato where you slice up a potato and put it in a foil packet with butter and a sauce made of soy sauce, toasted sesame seeds, and garlic, then dropping the packet on the grill for 20-30 minutes.

Whitel theyw ere both good and we'll make them again, I wouldn't say that those dishes went with each other. Not that we expected them to: we picked them on the basis of actually having all those ingredients on hand so we didn't have to leave the house to go shopping. We'll put up with a lot of discordant menu items if it means we don't have to leave the house.

AKICILJ/DW

So! I need a name for a campus organization devoted to watching/discussing movies/films. A film society, as it were. Difficulty level: it cannot be "Film Society" or something really close to that.

Is that model wearing a turban and a kilt?! Must be Gaultier.

ETA: O PARDON ME! They're actually shorts! Well, more of a hybrid of shorts and kilts. Sort of ... shilts.

So I show Toby the pictures of the shorts kilts shilts in the fashion shoot I linked to previously. His response: "No. No. No."

And then I said, "I'm going to tell you something that will make this whole thing make much more sense to you." He eyed me skeptically.

I said, "The collection is by Jean-Paul Gaultier. Gaultier is the guy who designed the costumes in The Fifth Element."

Toby opened his mouth, looked thoughtful, then shut it, nodding.
