Oct. 17th, 2008 07:41 pmWent home from work at 11, after migraine burst through the shield wall of Advil. Came home, ate lunch, took Relpax. Finished ... er, that Forgotten Realms book that is so forgettable I've now forgotten the title. Slept from 1 to 4:30. Got up, finished The Halfling's Gem, musing that while Salvatore had lots of other issues, he finally learned how to write a proper climax, which contrasts deeply with The Forgotten Book.
Then applied myself to cleaning up my office/studio area, in an attempt to finally find Places for most of the crap piled there. Haven't completely succeeded, but at least the tabletop is cleaned off now so I will hopefully feel able to sit back at the desk and get to
yhlee's and
helen_keeble's pictures, which I am sure they are currently despairing of!
The other benefit of this cleanup is that I discovered the art show check from A-Kon, which I'd forgotten I hadn't deposited. When it arrived, it was in the wrong amount, missing two pieces. I didn't deposit it immediately wanting to wait until the discrepancy was cleared up, and when it was I'd forgotten that the check was still here. THE PERILS OF ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER, PEOPLE. I need a keeper.
I also need a box or filing thing in which to put art business paperwork, as it's mostly stored in a large pile on my desk and is now stored in a large pile on a shelf next to my desk.
Tomorrow: art class, and then off to Dallas because there's an organization recycling old computer stuff and offering hard disk destruction, and I have an old computer and dead printer to take them.

Oct. 17th, 2008 10:33 pmGAH finally managed to get my hard drive backed up so I could install updates. WinXP had an update out that apparently on some machines broke XP so bad you had to reinstall from the start, much like what happened a few months ago with my Vista laptop, so I elected to flirt with danger and not update until I'd gotten ALL MY ART backed up. WHereupon I found that someone who I'm not naming but whose name rhymes with
myrialux had managed to pack all my cables in one box, separately from their components for some inexplicable reason that not even he can explain now for the move, which resulted in a lot of interesting language as I set up various electronic things in my apartment and had to deduce which cable when with what. Anyway, the upshot is that the AC adapter for my MyBook backup thingybopper went missing, and I had to order a new one.
But it's all backed up now and, as I expected, a newer patch or update fixed the problem with the broken update, and there seem to have been absolutely no problems. So far.
But all that's beside the point. So today, in addition to the forgettable book (Elfshadow), I also finished The Halfling's Gem book 3 of the Icewind Dale Trilogy. ( Read more... )
