By the way...

Yesterday: one Coke.

Today:

NO
MIGRAINE

This is an encouraging turn of events. So: no artificial sweeteners, yes to caffeine! Although I'm going to make it a rarity, rather than a regular thing, as I don't want to have to detox again and I REALLY don't want to be back in the place where if I don't drink something with caffeine, I risk having a migraine.

I decided to try the no-caffeine experiment after a couple of weeks with headache, and looked up causes of chronic migraine, of which caffeine consumption was one. So, worth getting off to see if it would affect me. :)

Hooray!

I had to decrease my caffeine intake to avoid anxiety and insomnia, and keeping it low enough/irregular enough to avoid getting hooked has been a big help.

Hurray for no migraine today! That's great.

Interesting that caffeine wasn't the culprit, but rather artificial sweeteners. I imagine the combination of the two doesn't help either. Still, knowing how crippling migraines can be for you, I'm glad you have more information to fight/control it with.

While I don't suffer from migraines, I'd been having my own issues due to soda, so I've switched to unsweetened iced tea for the most part. I avoid Splenda like the plague because it seems to affect my BG on a delay since it's just sugar alcohol. Aspartame doesn't seem to affect me much, but I have noticed a difference since this change. I still drink a diet coke now and again, but not nearly at the pace I developed in college (we'll just leave that as "way too many"). I've been feeling a lot better... and my singing voice doesn't suffer nearly as much now. ^^

I'm interested to see if my overall rate of migraines goes down once I'm off the artificial sweeteners for several months - it might be the case that they're more likely to trigger a migraine if I go to them after a period of being off. Dunno!

Re: your drinking less soda - it looks like that's being good for you. :D

Congratulations! Migraine is obviously a YMMV thing (or your triggers, more properly), but I did want to share that when I went off regular soda consumption, I discovered that caffeine actually does help my migraine in those pinch situations when I can't just take meds to knock myself out for a couple of hours. It didn't do this when I was consuming it every day, but there's a reason it's in some migraine meds.

Yup, caffeine's a vasoconstrictor, so if the blood vessels in your head are dilated and hurting, then it should help. I've known doctors who recommend taking aspirin or ibuprofen with some soda or iced tea for that reason.

Of course, today my head is hurting a bit from bad sleep last night but I shall resist drinking a Coke, because I need to not get back into that habit. XD

Aww, that's awesome. I've just got up after nearly 48 hrs of seriously horrible head so I'm also slightly jealous, but yay, how fantastic to find something that works for you!

Well, I've got a headache-possibly-migraine today due to really awful sleep last night so you don't need to feel that jealous! XD
