Testing cut tags and crossposting, to see if I can avoid overwhelming your f-list with a kittyspam post later or, barring that, making the cuts look halfway decent in both places.

Dreamwidth cut tag contents

LJ cut contents

Contents between both the DW cut and the LJ cut

ETA: Answer: both types of tags work on DW, neither work when crossposting. So the kittyspam posts get posted separately, to ensure the cut tags work both places.

Thanks for that. The same happened to me and I was looking for confirmation. Now I know it's not me. :)

it's definitely not just you, it's a known bug. :)

also, re. questions in your LJ:

yes the importer can import new entries if it is run again. but if you have crossposted an entry in both places, at this point you'll end up with duplicates here.

and so far no crossposting from LJ to dreamwidth is planned that i know if -- that would mainly be up to LJ anyway. i'm guessing this will be handled by clients.

gmail works with subject titles, at least

the gmail thing is a known problem, but unfortunately it is on google's side. all the LJ clones except for LJ itself have the same problem, so the conclusion is that google did something specifically for LJ when it got big.

i don't know whether anyone is talking to google, but i know from prior experience that they're generally not very receptive, unfortunately. i shall check whether it's on somebody's list (after open beta starts; it's really busy right now).

the login cookie might be DW's fault. there is a bug for it (but it happens very randomly, also did on LJ).

the wiki has a list of known UI issues if you want to check whether something you run across is already being worked on.

Question: Does the cross-post go both ways? Will Dreamwidth pick up LJ posts?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-04-20 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope - their crossposter works by taking DW posts and putting them on LJ. I don't know if they have it in the works to pick LJ entries up.

You can import your LJ (and comments!) wholesale into DW: I wonder if, when you run the importer again, it just picks up the latest entries? Hm.

Might be worth a try.

(P.S. Toby gave me your new email address. Do you want to use it for the ConDFW staff list as well?

Maybe it's that I've had an especially horrible headache for days, but all the talk about crossposting and adult content has gone over my head. Also, none of my comments have been imported over despite my best efforts. Everything is so haaaard.

The comments came over fine for me, but my icons took three or four attempts, and I finally figured out that my problem was that my account had reset from Premium Paid to Basic. Dunno if that's your problem or not.

To set up crossposting, I went to my Account Settings here: http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=othersites and entered my LJ info in there. After that, a checkbox to crosspost showed up at the bottom of new posts. I set that up before I imported my LJ, and it managed to change my crosspost settings from my LJ name to my email address, so I had to go back into settings, delete that, and re-enter my LJ info for it to show up properly. And now it seems that when I import from LJ to DW, cut tags work, but when crossposting from DW to LJ, they don't work. I got a comment today from someone saying it's a known bug.

I haven't done anything with the adult content warnings on DW, so don't know a thing about that. :)

For me, the icons arrived immediately. I've been set at Premium Paid since a few days before I tried the transfer.

I haven't tried to crosspost via the DW site, though the checkbox is already there without me setting anything up. I've seen that I can crosspost via Semagic.

The adult content thing seemed really complex.
