Small producers...

I'm stealing an idea from [livejournal.com profile] sartorias last year, because I know I have a lot of creative people 'round here who write, do art, make sock monkeys (more than one!), etc., and hey! there's gift-giving seasons coming up, and a lot of people who like to give creative, unique, or otherwise hand-made gifts.

So ... if you make or produce something for sale in some way and would like to post it here in the comments, please go ahead! (Er, if I get around to it, I'll concatenate them into a nice organized listing. Don't hold your breath.) Prints, photos, commissions, jewelry, sock monkeys, keychains, comics, books*, costumes, whatever! Have fun!

* If you're a published author of any ilk, feel free to post!

ETA: And since I stole the idea from [livejournal.com profile] sartorias, I'll just point out that she is also an author with books you may wish to consider.

I'll start!

If you like comics, boykissing, secret agents and/or martial arts, head over to Project Blue Rose (http://www.projectbluerose.com/) for only the finest* in BL comics!

I also sell prints (http://telophase.deviantart.com/journal/20183421/) and photographs (http://telophase.imagekind.com/GalleryProfile.aspx?gid=34110ebb-27b9-4c02-8099-79a57223e176).

I will also soon be opening up some sort of Etsy/Artfire shop for kanzashi, and if you'd like to commission me (http://telophase.deviantart.com/journal/19427969/) for something art-wise, then start thinkin' as once I knock out my two outstanding commissions, I'll be opening back up!

* May be subject to a slight bias.

Will the kanzashi shop be open and shipping before Christmas?

Should be! What I need to do now is (a) attach the 5 or 6 completed flowers I've got now* to some sort of barrette/clip/stick/pin and then take photos of them, then upload them and start a-sellin'. HOPEFULLY I'll get that done this next week or so.

* Not yet photographed - my camera was left at Mom's, but I've got it back. :D

I've been looking to do art commissions for some time. You can see samples of my work at my deviantart (http://unrelatedwaffle.deviantart.com) page, and I have even more recent doodles/studies available if you'd like. I'm cheap, too. First three requesters will get color commissions (digital or colored pencil/tria markers, 9"x11") free, as long as your requests are reasonable ^.~*

Contact me at unrelatedwaffle at le gmail.

I am a seamstress. I make costumes and clothing. I have done crafts and accessories(aprons, purses, plushes) as well.

I have extremely reasonable rates and provide quality work! I do not currently have a web portfolio, but will happily email photos of my work on request. rebekkahsrc@hotmail.com

[identity profile] badnoodles.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could participate! Lord knows I've got the ability to do all kinds of needlework, but I don't believe I have anything finished or posted to my craft gallery that would inspire anyone to commission something from me.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, you never know! At any rate, this post will still be here if you decide otherwise. :)

[identity profile] badnoodles.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'll bite.

I am a stitcher: cross-stitch, needlepoint, drawn/pulled work, punched-paper, beading, and traditional hardanger. I am also a horrible photographer, explaining the really bad pictures from my craft gallery here (http://www.badnoodle.com/gallery/crafts).

Although most of the pictures in the gallery are from published patterns, I am quite capable of doing custom/original design using any of the above techniques. Cost would be dependent on materials and size. I could do something similar to the ornaments found here (http://www.rainbowgallery.com/freechartdownloads.cfm?ID=16) for $15-$20, but a larger piece with silks or beading would be more.

Drop a line in my lj, or at badnoodle/gmail.

I have an Etsy Shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=17031) in the works! I'll be offering sock monkeys for certain and I'd like to put some small paintings up and perhaps some prints or papercraft items.

Examples of monkeys, paintings, and illustrations can be found on my Web site: tammy-lee.com (http://www.tammy-lee.com) and more of my finished illustrations can be found at mangarevolution.com (http://www.mangarevolution.com/tammylee/).

Sorry, I forgot to mention what a great idea this is! =D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I really liked the idea when [livejournal.com profile] sartorias did it. Well, obviously. XD Now I just have to remember to occasionally post a link to it so that people can keep looking at it. :D

I do cute doodles for $2, and was trying to take commissions for $5. Examples of the cuter things can be found here (http://lady-noremon.deviantart.com/gallery/#_browse--7), and my DeviantART page is here (http://lady-noremon.deviantart.com).

I also make blank note-cards with paper-quilling. I sell them for $5 each, plus shipping (59cents-$1.20). I have a few of pictures of the ones I have for sale at a local bookstore here (http://community.livejournal.com/paperquilling/6114.html).

I'm a musician working on my first CD - tho' I'm still on the learning-curve part of that, so I can't point you at any tracks. There will be a myspace music page tho' - there will be. Muah ha ha.

I have a small assortment of silly mugs at two different Cafe Press stores; these feature either the shield of the Cascadian Mecha Militia Dance Dance Revolution Demonstration Team or the League of Disgruntled Software Workers logo. (Male and female versions on opposite sides of the mugs. ^_^ ) Those are here and here. The basic mecha militia mugs have both the Dance Dance Revolution Demonstration Team and general Mecha Milita shields; the League of Disgruntled Software Workers mugs have male and female versions of the design on opposite sides.

I have a few prints available! Mostly the Lake Monsters of the Allies series, with Nessie Goes to War, Champ off the Shores of Tripoli, and Ogopogo at Pago Pago. I also have this alt-history poster from an 80s elf-glam band, The Perfect Way's Perfect Tour (Mercer Arena '83), and this piece of pretty elfboy hottness just called "Hot." Those are US$10+shipping each, unmatted.

Finally, I do glass sculpture. These are heavy, often large ("Building in Europe" is like five feet wide, no lie) but not always so ("Remembering Someone Else's Grandmother" is, like 10" square), and difficult to ship. But they're available!

Cafe Press stuff can be bought there; contact me via LJ, or darako at murkworks d0t net for art prints and sculpture. I'm thinking strongly of setting up a photography sales page, because people are suggesting I should; you can see some of that here (older work) and here are a bunch of flower pictures on my LJ, and there's some decent stuff buried in the kitty pictures here, but you need to go past a lot of kitty pictures to get there. ^_^

I've been working on a dragon that I hope to sell prints of. I just need motivation to finish it. O///O

[identity profile] mindyklasky.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
While I craft, those projects are solely for fun and not for profit.

I *do*, though, write. My most recent novel, MAGIC AND THE MODERN GIRL, just came out on October 1. You can read more about it, including a sample chapter, at www.mindyklasky.com.

[identity profile] kintail.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I haven't even promoted this properly on my own journal yet because with wedding-etc I haven't had time to "finish" the website to my liking, and yet in the meantime I've been kept busy with inquiries from people who have found my site anyway! So.

I knit custom hats with animal ears!

See my Foxknit website (http://www.foxknit.com) and gallery of completed hats (http://flickr.com/photos/foxknit/collections/72157605252495626/).

The patterns are my own invention, and I have standard popular designs like my Fox (http://flickr.com/photos/foxknit/2794467944/in/set-72157606930234538/) and Tabby Cat (http://flickr.com/photos/foxknit/sets/72157605184917150/), but I also love new challenges, making hats based on other animals (like ferrets (http://flickr.com/photos/foxknit/sets/72157605205745499/)!) and using other yarns.

Prices start at $30 US plus shipping for kid-size hats and $35 for adult-size hats made with basic acrylic yarn (including some colours of tabby-striping multicoloured yarn) or minimally-processed 100% wool yarn.

Please inquire about the possibilities for design modifications or different yarns -- there's too many to list! For example, the commission I'm working on currently is a very fuzzy cream cat hat made from alpaca yarn, with side flaps to cover the wearer's own ears, tie-cords, and a hole on top for a ponytail.

[identity profile] kintail.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I should add that it can take me up to two weeks to finish each custom hat, especially if it's a new animal or yarn for me so that I'm experimenting as I go.

Therefore, I won't be taking very many commissions which I can guarantee to have done by December's gift-giving holidays, but I do keep knitting year round. Please let me know your deadline up front, and I'll let you know whether I can meet it or not. Actual order of hat-knitting is based on the order I receive payment for them.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I bake delicious cookies, which would probably survive mailing within the continental United States. I can also bake to commission, so long as the requirement isn't too difficult (ie, "lemon and rosemary" is doable, "shaped like the Pope" or "gluten-free" probably isn't.)

[livejournal.com profile] solarbird pointed me over here!

My very first novel, an urban fantasy called Faerie Blood, is about to come out via Drollerie Press around the first of the year!

(Also, hi, I think I've swapped comments with you over on JF!)

Thank you very much, on both counts! I keep hearing of you secondhand, so it's neat to have another reason to say hi. :) :)

NONE OF IT'S TRUE.

I SWEAR.

I make modular geometric origami, mostly out of post-it notes. I don't have a website for it at the moment, but can take photos and send them if anyone's interested in examples.

[identity profile] scorpionocean.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I make glossy stickers that are about 3 inches tall and glossy. Fanart or original characters welcome. You can find samples of my stickers in my DA gallery (http://scorpionocean.deviantart.com/gallery/) Pricing info can be found in my journal (http://scorpionocean.deviantart.com/journal/)

I make shiny cotton dice bags, which I have been trying for FOREVER to get a proper picture of and I keep failing. I'm working on setting up my Etsy store, so I'm hoping to get them up soon.

I also make little cross stitch magnets/pins - I have a terrible photo example of one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kungfufighting/2928965920/), but again, can't get a proper photo (need a new camera), so that's the best I have. That one is also unfinished.

This is the best comment thread EVER. So many neat things for sale!

It's ood to know I'm not the only one who suffers from "can't photograph my crap disease"

[identity profile] madspark.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I make and design stuff, and write about how to do it... I can work in almost anything (though I don't like to work in wood), but I don't like to sell "things" only "ideas" or solutions (words).

Anyway, I also want to improve my writing and get fiction published.

I've been thinking of doing something for Etsy myself, but haven't really gotten around to it. But I'd like to pluy the shop of this cute Thai student girl because it has lovely art on her bookmarks, parasols, cards, etc. and her prices can't be beat (shipping is also highly affordable).

I run on Etsy as Meranna, so if you look at her feedback I've bought most her recent bookmarks and am delighted in them (though I do laminate them when they arrive to make them live longer). I can attest that all the designs are hand drawn.

Urm, I make kanzashi too, as well as wa-loli obi (http://magpiecanada.etsy.com). I also sell prints of my artwork (http://maralagnerian.com/portfolio.html) on the rare occasions when people ask me for some.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, pretty! I've literally just been experimenting with ways to affix kanzashi to hair thingyboppers (http://www.magatsu.net/pic2/kanzashi/2008-10-08-093.jpg). What have you been using, if you don't mind my asking?

[identity profile] sarcasm-hime.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
For larger flowers and groupings I attach the stem wire to the flower base first...for small clips I sort of make a 'staple' out of wire that goes through the base and secures the clip to the flower base, before I start adding petals.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I hadn't thought of the staple method. :D I've been making the bases with stems, although the wire I currently have is way too heavy to bend for wrapping around stuff easily, and not quite heavy enough for doing them in a more traditional style.

Thank you!

My Secret of the Three Treasures (http://www.simner.com/threetreasures) is aimed (roughly, because I don't really think there are age limits on reading) at the 7-12 year old crowd, is available through most online bookstores, and if folks email me at janni (at) simner (dot) com, I'll send along a signed bookplate to go with any copies folks want to give as gifts. :-)

I usually do this too, but it'll be sometime in November. :)

Lovely idea!

Playing catch up here yet again.

I sell original artwork and prints, as well as woodcarving and pyrography. Samples of some of my work are at www.akersart.us

I also have some illustrations and a short story in Animal Magnetism, a charity anathology at www.lulu.com where proceeds are donated to Noah's Wish,
as well as some illustrations published in its sister book, Southern Comfort, proceeds going to the American Red Cross. Both of these can be bought bound or as downloads (a lot less expensive).
