It's interesting the way their eyes look in those old photos. Kind of creepy, eh? I suppose it's from the shutter of the camera having to be open for a while and them blinking during that time frame.
And you're right, the one on the left looks like he's scratching his name into the desk or having to write lines for misbehaving. Hee hee...

My thoughts, too! (I dreamed about Tom Sawyer last night - in the dream I was a young actress who just got cast in her first role - starring as Tom's sister in what must have been some sort of feminist reinterpretation. The actress I was in the dream was tall and skinny and freckled and that pale kind of redhead, and they had to cast her first so they could get a Tom who looked like her. XD And then the dream continued with something about a bizarre mall made of wood with no walls inside.)
