Via Shorpy.com: a childrens' party from 1922, in which not a single kid is having fun. XD

Ha! That's too funny...That makes a bad day feel not so bad after all...

It could always be worse! You, too, could be at this party!

Heh ... the expressions range from "heck, I thought we were gonna have cake!" to "I didn't spend hours with my hair in rag curlers to wear this!"

(My mom actually used rag curlers on me a number of times! I know how it's done, and what the results look like!)

(I read about rag curlers as a kid and tried to make my own, but I never got good results. XD)

Was this still from the time period where you were supposed to look all serious as pictures weren't taken all that often (which is the reason so many people are convinced they had grim, gloomy ancestors)?

Nah, there's a lot of happy photos from the 1920s. Which doesn't mean that whichever parent took the picture wasn't into Very Serious Demeanor. XD

There was actually a photo posted to Shorpy yesterday (http://www.shorpy.com/node/4026) of King Street in Alexandria, VA as it looked back in 1921. The third or fourth storefront on the left is now the restaurant where we went for tapas a few months ago. :)

Oh, cool! XDD

That's hilarious. Such utter lack of enthusiasm!

The poor little souls! I think I can remember similar occasions, though. Nothing more depressing than forced jollity.
