I haven't been posting
yuletide recs partly because lots of them are going by on my f-list already, and partly because I feel it obligates me to say something more coherent than "Squee!" about them, but one that I really loved hasn't been mentioned by anyone on the f-list* and I know that a lot of you would love it.
The fandom is Neil Gaiman's American Gods, but you need no knowledge whatsoever of canon: this could be taken as-is and be a standalone tale.
"The Journey West" Listen, and I will tell you how Monkey comes to America.
* Or I missed it. Which is entirely possible.

I'm surprised at how ignorant I am of a lot of these fandoms, so I haven't read a lot yet (also, despite the fact that I am off from work, real life keeps intruding ... ).
I've been trying to get through the ones I know on my own, so I haven't been paying a lot of attention to other people's recs yet ... I had added the yuletide comm to my watch list, and now I wish I hadn't, because it's been hot and cold running recs for two days, mostly for fandoms I don't know, and it's drowning the rest of my flisters' entries. Maybe I'll take it off for a while ... .
